Well I most certainly do have coil springs around the front struts of my xantia. Although the suspension is still hydraulic.perhaps this is the route Citroen are taking in their new suspension system of late. Does the C5 benefit from suspension fluid clean outs with hydraflush like the old lhm system ? I appreciate it uses a different fluid. LDS ? Or does it have a much longer lifespan than lhm?

:rofl2: TGIF! It was that last bit Paul
So all Mk1 and Mk2 estates had the button and some (a lot?) of X7 estates have the button.
- just easier to say all hydraulic C5 Estates!
You've got me at it now Paul - just had to go back and clarify 'Estates'! :-D

All the hatchbacks I've looked at do not have the button on the right hand boot panel. The x7 hydraulic estates only have them in exclusive trim .Paul your help/advice has been brilliant in this thread we all have our moments I certainly don't expect people to know every trim level of every car out there. Thanks for your contribution.

I'd love to see a picture of that Nigel!
Now here is an example of the utter tosh I'm on about - I mean - note the years in the picture in blue they are selling these 'coil springs' 2001, 2002? 2003? hmmm, really, seeing that the Xantia ended production in 2000....
Now I'm not saying that it's not possible to modify the car to have conventional springing but would I'm sure involve a lot more than just fashioning a mounting system and disconnecting all the pipes etc. And then why would you bother? Just buy a Ford - Jim as the Zeus of all things Xantia will be the expert on that :-D

I had already corrected that Nigel before you posted back - just estates and tourers, not hatchbacks or saloons. :-D

Sorry Marc just exclusive trim on the x7 estates I've seen thus far have the button vtr x7 estates do not. Perhaps its became an optional extra..?

Hydraulic suspension on non C5 X7 Exclusives was only available at launch for 2008 UK models on the VTR+ - but only for the Auto and 2.2 models. It was available only on the Exclusive from 2009 onwards Nigel.

I suppose there is nothing stopping you from running a wire from the up down button between the seats and installing your own boot button?

I would say ABS is slightly more of a general option than re-engineering a car's suspension system. The X7 for example was designed from the start to have either the metallic or hydraulic option fitted - so the design incorporates this from the start - this picture shows the top mounting of the strut which is the same fitting as the hydraulic strut for example.

If you ever get the time or inclination, I would really like to see a picture of your front Xantia 'coil springs' Nigel.

Are you sure you're not just confusing the rubber boots that cover the strut, which look like they might well contain springs, with actual springs?

I've owned and worked on many a Xantia and not one of them has had springs!

I'd love to see a pic..

There was also the Iranian Xantia too... I'm pretty sure they were hydraulic but just maybe some of those and the Chinese ones, if not all, may have been conventionally sprung and braked maybe?

Maybe the Chinese Xantia was called an XM as it was easier to pronounce...

The Chinese ones in the link suggest they made both S1 and S2 models... The green one looks S1 at the back whilst the blue one is definitely an S2... Maybe S1 back and S2 front...

We need to know more...
