That platinum P6 is absolutely gorgeous :D Neil, thanks so much for fining and posting it up!

£24K for a P6 though... Astonishing!
It was in "mint" (cant stand that phrase in car ads :!: :-D ) condition though, and apparently had a £40,000 professional restoration.

Looks great!
Those were my last two P6's - Cameron Green ('72 2000TC) and Lunar Grey ('75 3500S).
What a pair!
Forget the Series 1, Jim. S2 better in every respect, although, like XM, hybrids are possible - and often crop up in films.

Cameron Green was a lovely variation on British Racing Green. Funny things, the P6 colours: I learnt from David Bache that Rover did experiment with a lot of body colours for P6, including some very bright ones. They found, with one or two exceptions (eg the sporty Monza Red and Paprika), that these just didn't suit the shape of the car at all, and that mucky and obscure colours were far better, and generally preferred by customers - hence Lunar Grey, Tobacco Leaf, Old English White, Cameron Green, and Almond.

In 1977, when the last of the P6's were painted and assembled on the SD1/Metro lines at Longbridge, they tried some of the SD1 colours - and interiors - on P6, including Avocado green, and Mango cloth. Disaster! and many P6 afficionados steered clear of them by a mile. The problem of these late cars in strange colours surviving was largely avoided by the paint falling off most of them. Some clot rejigged the electrostatic painting at Longbridge, so that the polarity of jig to bodywork was reversed, with the result that gas bubbles became trapped in the paint. Thousands of Mini Metros, SD1's (and a a good few P6's) were repainted under warranty. Bonnets and boots were particularly vulnerable.

In 1977, the last year of P6 manufacture, a limited Collector's edition was offered, in metallic Platinum (a rather pleasant greenish-greyish silver), and with a chocolate or a lighter brown cloth interior. A bit odd. Ironically, the last P6 to be built was a 2200 . . . Not the best, by far.

I always fancied getting my Lunar Grey 3500S resprayed into British Army Green (like the staff cars), but could never afford it. You don't get any muckier than that.
Should've found the nearest R.E.M.E. training camp, they would have done it for nowt. :)

For all that money on a professional restoration I just wish they had got the under-bonnet paintwork right. Those inner wings and tops and front slam panel should all be in satin black, and not body colour! The same goes for the air cleaner, and the rocker covers should be Rover engine grey.

Nice to see AC fitted - that was rare on UK models, but almost always part of the snazzy Export pack for countries like USA and Switzerland. There were loads and loads of Export goodies, which most UK dealers knew nothing about - including rear head rests, an "Icelert" frost warning system, mains-powered engine heater, and so on.

Hopefully that V8 above got fitted with contactless ignition, but it looks as if it's still handicapped by not having an additional coolant expansion tank - just the water-losing radiator side tank.

When we returned from Egypt in Dec. 1954 all our sand coloured trucks were repainted army green, no camouflage. :)

A shade sort of like this?

One of the lots at Brightwells sale on 23rd November is this little ensemble with no reserve. That is a 1955 Austin K9.

You know, I've looked all over for a pic of a car in what I call UK Army green. Was thinking of staff cars, probably Austin 1800, Austin 3-litre, or even Humber Hawk. Zilch, de nada.

Best I can find is this... But maybe a tad greener and darker...

Gosh, bliss :D Now if I could get that rig on the Amateur Bands I'd have a field day ;)

I recognise the teleprinter; a Siemens T100. I used to keep fleets of them running back in the day and could strip one to the last screw and rebuild it almost without recourse to the manual. I went on a three-week course to learn how back in the 70s...

Very happy memories. It was the T100 that cemented my enduring love of all things mechanical... I fell in love with them on that three-week course...

That BMC engine bay picture is gorgeous too... I love the maroon and it contrasts beautifully with the BMC green of the engine...

Ours were a bit more green than that not quite so khaki, I've got some photos but unfortunately I only had a black and white camera at the time. :)

Thanks for the link to the paint folk, Neil.
Do like the idea of very dark drab, but not sure about SAS pink panther. Shades of Clouseau?
