Citroen Relay 2.2hdi glow plug relay location?

Hi all,

I have the above mentioned van, a 2009 model, it's my second Relay and I've previously owned many Citroens, most notably a CX 2.4 Pallas and an SM.

Anyway, have you any idea how hard it is to Google the location of a relay on a Relay?

I've looked, but I cannot find the damned thing.

Glow plug relay, it's the big one with the 2 ring terminals and a multi plug.

Please, if anyone knows, it would be a big help. I need to replace it.

Whilst I'm here, I may as well tell the tale of woe.

New van to me, 130k miles. I've had it serviced plus new EGR valve, new silencer, new glow plugs, new fuel filter, new temp sensor. Also new heater control panel.

On cold mornings, it starts perfectly as always, then will tick over for about 30 seconds to a minute, then cut out.
It will repeat this behaviour until it starts to warm up, then is fine for the rest of the day.
The glow plugs do fire, they cut out after about 20 seconds, but I was wondering if the relay was sometimes not doing the job?

Everyone tells me it's not the glowplugs as once it's running, it should be fine... but I bougt a new relay just in case it was that, now I can't find the existing one...

It runs and performs flawlessly otherwise.

According to the specs, this has a pre / Post heating box which is controlled directly by the Engine Management ECU. - Item 4 in the diagram below:

Yes, indeed. It's where to find it on the actual van that is eluding me...

I've had another trawl and it could be in several places! Makes it harder as this is the Ford Engine and the RPO number doesn't exist on the database - probably as it might have been made by FIAT in Italy just to confuse matters, referred to as the Jumper III, Relay II!

Anyway, in some CARS like the 406 in this video, it is located underneath the engine fuse box on the side shown here:


In the Van's case it might be near the passenger side top suspension strut - so look there for the fuse box. Secondly, it could be near or just underneath the passenger headlight.

If it's not in any of those locations - I admit defeat!

Surely it has to bee connected to the glow plugs with a wire and it's a case of following the wire. Usually easier said than done but it must be at the other end.

Has anyone removed the relay to test the 4 pins of the plug attached to the wiring loom . I've tried all 4 with a light pen but not one gives any power to light the pen up. I was told they shoukd all work the light pen when touched . 🥲
