Chaps, would total Quartz 9000 5w40 be fine in this old lump?

I think it will but could do with a yes from you... its probably way overspeced for such an old design but I know nothing ;)

Personally John, I'd think 5W is a bit thin for such an engine with a few miles under its pistons... I'd go for 10W/40 myself...

I actually use the 10W/40 diesel oil that comes in 20l drums from Costco in everything bar Robyn's C1 and Sian's Pixo and never had any issues with it at all...

High-mileage 8V Hdis thrived on it..

John, I only ever use 5W30 in mine and it has done almost 214,000 miles. Doesn't use any oil between services.

I'd agree with Jim that 10W40 would be fine though.

25 would buy you a lot of 10W/40 in Costco John ;)

chaps.. the engine is running.. nothing major to report..
it runs on, though... it didn't do this before.. always about 5 seconds after key turned off..

Have put PP on, cleared some faults, and then tried it again. As soon as it stopped the EM light was lit and a 'fuel pressure coherance' error was flagged..P1671
any thoughts on how a regulator could keep the engine running after the ignition has been switched off? odd that is wasn't doing this before..

Or could something else be at fault? I have rebuilt head, removed loom and fuel pipes and changed injectors, and that's it..

thanks for any thoughts,
John

edit.. have done some reading..
if the pressure reg is allowing too much fuel into the rail, then this is running rich and I guess can leave excess fuel in the CC.. which in turn can carry on burning after switch off..

edit 2, dirt in the fuel lines could have found its way into the reg... stopping it closing when the pressure drops off.. after 2 months of work, despite being careful, this is a possible and worth a look..
