It does look good, Jim, but doesn't do much for rear vision!
A complete kit was available for boot-lid mounting, including underside reinforcing frame/studs, counterbalancing spring, wheel spacer, and vinyl cover (choice of black or brown, iirc).

Image

Looked particularly lithe from the side. The black sills on later models (there I go again) helped, as did the stainless side trim. The two bumps on the later (sorry again) bonnets were nothing to do with the V8 covers, but were put there by David Bache to improve the look and strength the aluminium bonnet. The TC and the V8 got them at first, and then the 2000 and 2200 too. That lovely colour is Almond.

The closer you look, the more Citroen DS influence you can see. Solihull had several DS's meticulously stripped down.

..there were a few minor mods necessary, as the spare wheel was a heavy lump, and the boot lid needed a bit of bracing to avoid flexing with the extra weight, and raising the boot lid with the wheel on top, required mods to prop it in the open position.

Plenty of info here http://www.p6club.com/content/fitting-boot-mount-spare

Regards Neil

...pretty much as you said Chris!

Love those P6 weeltrims too...

Trying to think if there's anything about the P6 I don't like! Don't think so...

Rover did try hard to make the most of the P6 boot. This is a still from Rank's "Assignment P6", with no less than David Bache (note the suede shoes and sharp suit) having very methodically piled this lot into a prototype boot. It must have taken someone weeks to find a suitable set of bags.

The car is a wooden mock-up/styling buck.

The P6 boot is still a good bit bigger than a C1 boot though ;)

Brightwells Classic Auction viewing day at Leominster today, where the very nice low milage Rover 2000 is going under the hammer.

I always enjoy a look through the results of the classic car auctions to see what is selling and for how much. Posted up the result for the Citroen HY Camper from Anglia Car Auctions on the "What do you Know about Norfolk?" thread. Estimate was well exceeded and it sold for over £14,000, inspite of being heavily modified with some comfortable seats :-D .

Nicely presented results from Anglia Car Auctions-Kings Lynn, in alphabetical order with the picture as well, make for an interesting five minutes browse-

Its still going....up to lot 138 of 161 at the moment, and I think the Rover is still to come.

I'm watching it on this page which brings up a pic, and tracks the bidding
