OK, worth a try and didn't cost anything! - It may well be suffering from a faulty eeprom then as widely reported. There is a hidden system menu (Press SETUP, then hold the 1-2-3 buttons in together). This shows various parameters and is also where you can perform a system reset. Now I'm not saying that a reset will solve the issue, and it may well clear out the jukebox contents and all phonebook entires or custom information that you have entered, resetting everything back to the factory settings, but may be worth a last ditch attempt. Failing that, the unit is easily removable and might be able to be sent off for repair.

I have found the following unit (although it is collect only - you might be able to convince the guy to post it to you - and with the Euro situation now, it should cost you less to buy than a few days ago!!)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C5-PE ... SwnNBXVcwU

Spare units are hard to find and expensive - this is the cheapest I've found.

Here's a video on removing the unit in case it helps:

Always worth exploring the non-cost options first though.

Hey guys,.

It's been a while, but finally managed to try all suggested fixes and yet again, i'm afraid to say, no dice!

Reset through hidden menu, took head unit out and checked all wires.

One thing i did notice: when idling / engine off - it does not seem to restart - left for 15 and again 10 minutes. When you drive - it restarts consistently after approx 2:30 - 2:45mins. This to me rules out bumps in the road etc... so i don't think lose connections are the issue.

I've taken the fuse out in the meantime as it can be very frustrating having to re-tune the radio after every restart!

Hi All,

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

First of all, thanks to all who offered help and suggestions, really appreciate the effort.

Now for the embarrassing solution..... a corrupt SD card....

After very nearly buying a new head unit at €300 +-, i thought i'd first spend the €85 diagnostics fee at Citroen and voila... it paid off! I'm still confused as to how it became corrupt, as it has been in the car for nearly 2 years with 2014 maps on it. In hindsight, it makes sense as the radio never restarted when standing or engine not running and then restarting every 2-3 minutes when driving - as the map moves...

Hopefully this might help someone else in the future!

Well that's good news - of course didn't really think about the dear old SD card - but of course on your unit this is how the mapping works, whereas on the NG4 it is all installed to the Hard Drive.

The SD card generally has a life expectancy of 10 years - but given that this is being used for constant mapping, the write cycle wear will likely be reached sooner than in normal consumer use. There is definately a lesson here - great that you posted back the update. =D>

HI, I realise this is an old thread, but I am new to the forum and have a similar problem with my C5 Hdi 59 plate tourer. The System works fine for about 20 mins and then shuts down, losing any recent pre-sets and navigation details. Once re-started it works fine for another 20 - 40 mins and does the same. Very vexing. My firmware is rneg_D_R20ter_r20.07. Can anyone guid on where I can get the latest firmware and instructions on how to install. It may not be the fix, but can't hurt to update.
Thanks

My guess would be that the unit is overheating ... try pulling it out (if you have the tools) and see if it will be able to stay turned on for longer ... I've managed to find a download source for the latest RNEG firmware, no guarantees and you're updating at your own risk ...

As it was mentioned before, you can also try with the SD card out (in case its file system is somehow corrupt), apart from the mentioned, other hardware failures are rare and usually not easily fixable (it's faster to obtain a 2nd hand unit, even though they're quite rare)

Hi All,
Does anyone have any easy steps for removal of the infotainment system on the C5 tourer (59 plate)?
Thanks

There are lots of head units, you need to post up or PM your vin so we know what exact unit you have. Also be aware that the head unit is also the configuration interface for some of your car's options and settings. If you are thinking of upgrading to another Citroen Head Unit you should be fine, but beware of aftermarket units.
