That sounds like quite a catastrophic failure in the gearbox Nigel...

A little interesting it has happened so soon after the clutch replacement...

One thing I've noticed in the past is that bellhousing bolts sometimes work loose after a clutch change unless well done up...

On ones I've done recently, including Davie's) I always use a torque wrench and double-check them now...

Not saying it is that for a moment but always worth checking them after a few hundred miles of such major work..

A few hundred miles?????? It's mote like a few thousand already! 600 miles to get home, a few times in and out of Aberdeen, and now back down to Peterborough now! I'd better order a new clutch, it will be worn out by now again! Espically as you made a 3mm plywood one [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23]

3 coats of Blackfriars Yacht Varnish, allowed to dry and then sanded between coats, I take it? That should add another 6 months then. I hope it wasn't too heavily polished, otherwise it will start slipping!

Hmm its nearly MOT time for the little 2cv and I just know its going to fail
on the offside rear breaking it always does.
fitted a brand new hub last year to get it through its test and it passed.
jacked it up yesterday to check all was ok and the hub was wobbling.
so I tried to tighten the hub ring nut and even with a half inch drive ratchet handle and a five foot long
steel pole I couldn't get enough pressure on it to tighten the dam thing up.
its going to need some thought this one.

With sand in it for improved grip and durability

People who live on narrow boats normally mix sand in paint, and then use it on the gunwales and the roofs of the boats to provide grip when they get wet. Mum does on The Black Cat.

I always put sand in gearbox oil - help give the synchros a bit more friction

Used to put old cut up stockings in the old Ford (sorry didn't mean to swear)
gearboxes to make them quiet.
