It's absolutely brilliant James. I've also had offers of driving the car up to me and I drop off at the airport if I'm not well enough to drive the distance. I just love this forum. It's by far the friendliest and most helpful one I have ever been on.
And that is in spite of me being a member!

I'm hoping it's Tuesday, and either just before 1pm, or just after 10 pm, the earlier one vastly preferable

Mike, by way of clarification, the slave and pipe shown in the first two pictures mounted in the vice in my workshop is NOT the one from Davie's car, it is a spare I had in stock as a complete spare that was complete but dry of fluid almost... Hence why I used it as a proof of concept and as a practice-piece....

Didn't want to do anything to the one on the car until I was 100% sure of what I was doing ;)
Sorry Jim ... I can only see the blue cylinder so that's NOT where you are topping up then?

Bit confusing as to how you can top up and maintain it's air tightness, it is mounted horizontally isn't it or is the 'lid' at its high point somewhere amongst all those pipes?

Mike, I don't go near the blue cylinder. Look again to the left of the heater matrix elbow and if you look very carefully you’ll see the master cylinder reservoir! It really is well hidden and virtually inaccessible....

I can understand the confusion because it is so hard to see and the blue cylinder (which is a strictly one-time connector) is so visible.

It's amazing what you can do with a very heavy brick on the clutch pedal Mike!!!

I see it now Jim .... just!

Does that lid prise off easily?

What exactly is that little blue cylinder (just wondering the signifiance of it's colour that's all).

Reason I ask is that activa1 (the flaking, algae ridden MK1 Dante Red activa) had a new complete hydraulic system including that blue thing as a condition of sale by me when I bought it, the pedal was on the floor and the guy selling didn't want to fix. I understand why now. So we 'negotiated' and his local garage fitted the whole thing - £400 :o

Oh yes, they're horribly expensive Mike! I believe they may now be NFP..

Yes, the lid prises off easily enough but it has a membrane underneath it like a strong balloon... This can obscure the real level in the reservoir...

The little blue cylinder is a one-time joint. The new kits come in two halves, already filled and bled. The two halves are fitted and then joined once both are in place... Without that joint it would be impossible to fit without removing the engine and gawd knows what else!
