Well, whoever designed and built them, they are a good series of engines.
Will they become classics in the way the Ford Kent or Rootes 1725? who knows.

Re: DPF removal? Better think again!
The 1.4 had some issues which can be sorted out, the 1.6 problems seem to be partly related to the service intervals.
The 2.0 lump (140bhp in my car) is an excellent engine, had it in a V50 that I put thousands of fairly trouble free miles on, had done over 100k when I got it at 3yrs old, though the lack of a bleeding bulb and the interior fan dying can't really be blamed on the engine!
Even with nearly 160k on it there was no oil consumption, wasn't as economical as my mk3 Mondeo with the earlier 2.0 tdci engine (130bhp in my case).
The 2.7tdv6 had some issues such as EGR problems. But the 3.0tdv6 was an awesome engine, but crippling if it needed repairs.

0-60 in under 6 secs of you get the higher power version in an XF!
A C6 with the 2.7 would be nice, not sure if they did a C6 with the 3.0.

Oh, they did! Very nice too, apparently. About 40 were imported to the UK, whereupon several were then snapped up and shipped to Japan (greedy sods!).bigjl2 wrote:The 3.0tdv6 perhaps.Xantianut wrote:Well, whoever designed and built them, they are a good series of engines.

Re: DPF removal? Better think again!
That would be a nice car indeed.
I had a Jag for work with the 3.0tdv6 engine. And also drove RRS old and new shape, Discovery 4's and a brand new for the Rugby World Cup full fat Range with the higher powered engine, that thing was hilariously fast and almost a match for the petrol V8 supercharged one the family I was working for owned (58 plate)
Something that big should be able to accelerate that fast.

Re: DPF removal? Better think again!
That C6 was also the fastest production Citroen (faster, I believe, then the C5 with the same engine);

Re: DPF removal? Better think again!
Does somebody want to start a new topic on engine collaboration?

Why? This is normal for FCF to go off topic. It will get re-railed again at some time in the future.GiveMeABreak wrote:I think it's safe to say this is waaaayyy off topic now!

I know - I'm just as guilty

I don't know how legitimate the article from the Guardian is - I remember reading a couple of articles recently regarding this subject and upon a second read through, they sound more like a "glorified advert" for companies with a vested interest in DPF replacement (read http://garagewire.co.uk/news/government ... crackdown/)

Interesting that both articles mention the insurance issue:jimmymarsbar wrote:I don't know how legitimate the article from the Guardian is - I remember reading a couple of articles recently regarding this subject and upon a second read through, they sound more like a "glorified advert" for companies with a vested interest in DPF replacement (read http://garagewire.co.uk/news/government ... crackdown/)
“Not only will it invalidate car insurance and potentially fall under the veil of tax evasion, due to low emissions based road fund licensing, but it can damage the performance of the vehicle as well."
But I also found the first comment laughable:
"Anonymous April 19, 2016
Supermarket fuel and people buying the wrong car is the problem".

Re: DPF removal? Better think again!
I'm not an apologist for FAP removal but I have to take issue with some of the sensationalist phrases in the article.
Not only will it invalidate car insurance
Will it? It may invalidate it but until a case is taken to court it's all hypothetical.
potentially fall under the veil of tax evasion, due to low emissions based road fund licensing
Really? AFAIK the emission of CO2 is the sole method by which vehicle excise duty is calculated. The amount of particulates is irrelevant for this purpose. In fact it's arguable that CO2 emissions might be slightly less if the carbon in the particulates isn't being burnt.
