Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
I dare say if i was in the area i would be going with the wire brush and hammerite on any bits needing tidying. A tin of black, a tin of silver and a tin of green.

Can't get a decent brush for tartan paint away south there. That will have to wait until I get it home!

Davie, forgot to say earlier...
The LHM in your car is really beautifully clean and green. Looks like it's been changed quite recently. Filters in the LHM reservoir are nice and clean too
Alasdair, we'll see if we can arrange a good date for you to come and do your OCD bit

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
Had another quick look at the driveshafts this evening. Despite lots of Plus Gas still stuck very fast
I'm thinking they've been loctited in or something...
Next I'll try a bit of heat from the hot spanner and if that and the hydraulic hub puller doesn't work it'll be a case of removal of the hubs complete with driveshafts...
I note too I'm going to have to move the front ram pipery out of the way too..
Just about to do that and rain stopped play

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
I'd be interested in how you move 'the ram pipery' as my front ram pipe flexis need replacing alongwith the ram and i'm convinced i'll break something along the way ie ram pipery!! Be useful to see what precautions are needed.

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
Mike, I shall take special note of that but one of the most important things is getting the pipes to 'lay' correctly on reassembly...
There's a bit on my website about that...
Not much mind and I'll expand on that later with pictures

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
Look on the bright side Jim, you can add to your website! Are both driveshafts stuck solid? Would it be that they have been undisturbed for 18 years?

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
That's true Davie and in fact there'll be loads for both my website and the forum wiki... I will be able to document a clutch change and it'll be applicable to a 110HDi and a V6 Activa as well as the TCT.
Both shafts are stuck fast which is why I think it's something that's been done. It's a a bit of extra work to extract the hubs with driveshafts attached but as I say, if needs must it can be done...
Just a small problem to be worked around... Makes the job more fun
And I don't mean that in inverted commas either...

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
I wonder if perhaps it's been run with the hub nuts loose, and the shafts are therefore twisted into the hubs? In which case, they're probably better left undisturbed!!

Re: Davie's Activa Clutch
Now that's very possible Richard but the hub nuts were healthily tight when I came to undo them with my four foot breaker and I could see no signs of fretting...
I'm certainly not going to try too hard to release them if they really want to stay put but if ever wheel bearings need replacing.....
I may be able to leave the RH driveshaft in place if I'm lucky...

I suspect that they have been Loctited.

But why would anyone do that?
