Hydractive Humming...

Unread post by DS21 »

Hi guys,

Happy New Year...!

I noticed this today, and I don't know if it's normally like this or it's an issue but I noticed an electrical humming noise which appears to be coming from the electrovalve which is located just behind the radiator

I started pulling fuses to isolate the power source and when I removed the 20amp Hydractive fuse the noise went away, any idea what could be wrong or please confirm if this is normal?

Thanks folks..

Assuming that this is a Xantia, then it is normal for the hydractive electrovalves to hum when energised. It should stop 30 seconds after all the doors are closed.

I know of somebody whose electrovalves were humming. He then taught them the lyrics, and now they sing along with the radio instead!

Not akin to the Bristol Hum is it?
But you'd have to drive a Bristol to know that

Strangely enough I read that article - was aware of the phenomenon since way back but I wonder if it is this I can hear in the quiet hours during the night - I often think it is the central heating pump running but invariably not.
I like the thought of being sensitive to microseismic waves.

Probably ball locks though.

Grain of truth in this... You can hear the electrovalves singing on the wireless by switching to the longwave band and tuning down to around 170KHz...

There you will hear them switching in and out as you corner....

... and when you get bored with that, if you use hearing aids and set to "loop", you can hear the injectors firing - and cutting out on the over-run.
Oh for a decent hobby, when the cars let me... :rofl2:
