95 Synergie 1.9td gearbox filler plug replacement

Post by Ianhw77k »

After changing the CV joint on my synergie for the second time in 6 months, I couldn't get the gearbox filler plug off, it looks like previous butchery has occurred.
I had to drill it and use an extractor in the end. This has left me with a ruined plug and after scouring the Internet for a replacement, I've found nothing.
It measures around 16mm in diameter but looks to be a taper thread, the pitch vaguely matches up with a 1.5mm gauge and it's made out of soft aluminium.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ian.

Probably available from the dealer - post up the last 8 digits of the VIN and we can look it up.

Sorry for the late reply, I was a bit busy over the weekend.

I'm not sure which number is the VIN but I'm guessing it's this one.

Thanks.

That's it - can't get on service.citroen here, but I'll have a look later.

VIN = Vehicle identification number AKA chassis number

Ian

This is the filler plug, which is on the end casing, at around 4o'clock:

12221 30
GEAR-BOX FILLER CAP
DIAM 14X100

However, if you've taken something off the top of the box, then that is the breather:

2268 14
RP 2268 30
GEAR-BOX BREATHER

Prices

0000222130 FILLER CAP 3.91 GBP 4.69 GBP 4.69 GBP

0000226830 GR-BOX BREATHER 3.49 GBP 4.19 GBP 4.19 GBP

This came off the front of the box, under the clutch arm. As far as I could tell, there wasn't one on the end but I'll have another look.
Thanks for the help.

Hmm, don't know what that is then - I'll have another look. Can you get a picture?

The filler (and level) plug should be obvious - look at the box end on from under the wheel arch and one of the bolts is much bigger.

It's been a while but the synergie is back up on stands having work done. I'll try to get some pics of this while I'm there.
The gearbox hasn't shown signs of trouble so I can only assume that where I put the oil in definitely leads to the gearbox. It's still a bit of a mystery though as that diagram doesn't look like my gearbox.

The filler plug is down the back of the gearbox from memory and very close to the bulkhead. I removed the reversing light switch and filled it from there.

I don't think that has worked, trying to do this on my phone. I've had to take the o/s driveshaft off to replace both boots while I'm doing both discs, pads and o/s wheel bearing. Like I say, the filler plug I found was on the front of the 'box and is pretty mangled. This one is on the side of the box (n/s of car) at about 8 'O' clock.
I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Hmm - that's odd.
Works for me in Firefox but not Chromium or Arora.

It is the one in the link above.

Edit: fixed!
