yes, I hardly used mine and sold it for next to nothing... I did go and see a 407CC V6 last week.. was a nice car but I really find towing and roofbars useful..

Both John but primarily the car you have now... Keep it... It's good and a known quantity...

Any new car is not going to be and nobody offers a car for sale because it's 100% perfect...

An insurance write off, although harming the value of the car, is not necessarily a reason for not buying a car. Take for instance my white c5. Very superficial damage, essentially replace the front bumper and a headlight and minor damage on the wing and it's a cat c write off. Folk would see cat c and assume it was mangled. I once bought a cat c fiat brava for the Mrs that got repaired with a hair drier popping out the bent outer bumper and a hammer the inner bumper and a new numberplate for a tenner!

Agree, if the resale value does not concern you or will essentially be bugger all, then a CatC is not a problem and can lead to a bargain. It is a shame but a lot of good cars are scrapped for a DIY £50 bumper and a headlamp

Thanks all .. the car, a 160 hp 2.0 c5 is worth a fair bit more than I have knocked him down too. Just feel it's a bit dis honest not mentioning it on ebay .. or something..
The report said substantial damage and a cat c write off.. on a 4-5k car..

Substantial damage is the cost of the repair versus the value of the car. In the case of my c5 the value of the car was £2150, the cost of the repair was over 4 grand, due to a bumper being £1350 and a headlight being £1850. Add in the paint for the bumper and wing repair and other clips and stuff and labour and a very minor bump becomes 4 and 1/2 grand. The c5 your looking g at for 4.5 grand cat c write off for no damage really. The reg document or hpi check won't state anything but what you saw, cat c substantial damage.
That said however the seller, espically if he is a dealer, is a bit naughty not declaring it. If you really want it, the safe thing would be get an independent vehicle inspection which should pick up the extent of the damage, and the quality of the repairs. Then it would be up to you to decide if it is cheap enough to buy, remembering that it will be worth less than similar cars come resale time.

I would now offer half of my offer from yesterday.. that would make it a cheap keeper, but its not really what I wanted, its almost perfect but I thought an H3+ new c5 would be great, not a steel sprung one..

agree that it doesn't take much to rack costs up, with parts, paint, labour and VAT ..

well I told him of my disappointment and that he should notify people of the damage on ebay and so on.. and asked what had happened to the car.. hes just sent 4 pics of rear 1/4 damage.. whilst the damage looks light it just proves that he knew about it !

lol
