Thanks all.. I think the problem now is the insurance. . I can covered no problem if I buy the car but I don't think online taxing will work. Which means finding a postoffice open in Wakefield Saturday afternoon and showing them a pdf of an insurance cert to get taxed.. or something like that ..

The last two cars I have had from a dealer were both taxed online at the dealer , no insurance required now , thought it strange myself but it's true .

thanks Mark..

dealers, or traders, seem to have a special way of taxing for customers.. so I read earlier...
I am not 100% the seller is a dealer, although he is a single share holder in a company registered 2 months ago..

John, When I bought my Picasso, the Post Office came up trumps on the taxing front, and if there is any argument you have a receipt with a date and time on it anyway which proves you have done your bit in taxing the vehicle immediately. My purchase also had the complication in that on the V5 Registration Document it was classified as "Disabled" so this change had to be notified, and I had to pay the higher tax rate. The PO took my money for the right rate of tax and notified the change to the DVLA. It was surprisingly straightforward.

Now what time on a Saturday they continue to do this sort of stuff till I have no idea. Maybe a quick phone call to Wakefield PO will give you the reassurance you need. I dont think any "proof" of insurance was required, although obviously I had previously arranged the necessary cover.

Regards Neil

Online is 27/7. All you need is the green slip which is 1/4 of the second page of the registration document. On there is a document referable number. Go on to http://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax. That may not be quite right but you will find the correct page if you Google it. It asks if you have a road tax reminder. Answer no. Then it asks for the v5 reference number. If I remember correctly under that it says 'I don't have the v5 just the new keeper slip' Click on this. It then asks for the 11 digit reference number of the new keepers slip. Enter it, then the registration number of the car. It then asks if it's due to a change of keeper. Click yes and it asks your name and address. Then it gives you all the options for paying it. Choose your option, enter either your long card number for a one off payment, or your sort code and account number for direct debit. End of job. The car is then taxed instantly and also registered in your name and you shall receive the registration certificate in the post in a couple of weeks. You do not have to be a dealer to do this. I have done it about 5 times in the last few months. It really is very simple to do. I am near enough computer illeterate I can just do the basics and I managed it no problem. I hope you manage to do this if you buy the car.

hehe

ney

what a minefield!! (c5 not VED)
this one was a VTR 160Hp 2.0 at £3000 with my trusty 2002 Hdi thrown at the dealer..

I remember buying a 406 V6 coupe once upon a time.. it was a v6 exclusive ... it was top spec and that was that....

I now wanted an upgrade for my ageing C5 and have 3000 to spend, maybe 3500...

but the X7! .... my head hurts
I feel I want hydraulics with sport setting.. I would like electric leather or half leather..
I like the ideal of something to help me park.
sat nav..not really.... but a screen to mess about with using the multi function thing, maybe

2.0 160, yep, 140? maybe? 136 no
2.2 not sure but not really
auto, yes if only route for hydraulic
but a 2.2 might have it and be a manual.. but its the 2,2
2.7 not a chance, now
3.0 v6 hdi yes pleeese!! none anywhere ever

tourer yes
saloon and towbar, think its possible
roof bar fitment? ok with all
springs and sport setting?

HID lights, do they all have them? directional lights? ambience? grr

does the 6 speed auto box suffer as the previous psa box regarding oil changes?

I have learnt a lot about the x7 this last 7 days, it looks likely that I should fly North of Aberdeen for a 160HP 2.0 auto saloon with hydractive 3+

as it is, my old blue c5 hatch keeps rolling on, and I really don't need to do the usual and make a rash decision... so will keep an eye out and keep calm ;)

suspension suspense

Post by jgra1 »

hi all, can someone tell me about the ESP coil sprung C5 X7 , compared to the Hydractive 3+ versions

.. I am sure there is no comparison but is it any good?

many thanks
John

edit, after reading a bit more, it's just a way of adding brakes and cutting power if a skid is detected, or something.. it doesn't firm up the suspension when cornering, not sure where I got that from

Does it have to be a C5 X7 ? If I was in the market for another car I'd be looking at a Renault Laguna 3 tourer/estate with the 175/180bhp 2.0dci engine in dynamique s trim level or an initiale if you can find one. Without doubt the most impressive vehicle I have ever owned and I've had a few , other than a slightly hard ride I couldn't fault mine and outstanding value . We owned the car for two years and it wanted nothing other than regular servicing etc . Good luck in your search for whatever you go for John.

thanks Mark, you mentioned this before to me, I just remembered ;)

I guess it could be a Laguna.. I am waiting to see if the original c5 160HP 2.0 in Yorkshire will take an offer from me, as its a possible nice car.. just not exclusive.. will have al ook around for other possibilities..

I am daft to change really, my old c5 is still very happy, the roads are getting slippery and there is no good reason to change right now.. just have a bee in my bonnet and once you start to look .. well...
