I sheared one off a beetle front cylinder. Ended up bleeding it via the hose.



the whole car was rotten mind :rofl2:

Someone had put a bolt in the bleed port on the front of my Renault 14.
Spent ages removing it, tapping it out and fitting a larger nipple.

Why I didn't just get another calliper from a scrapper I will never understand.

A well-known bodge back in the day... A kind of bleed could be achieved nu loosening the flexi hose at the caliper end and letting fluid bleed from it...

Only once have I had this happen to me (so far) and it was on the clutch slave cylinder on my Lada Niva. Wasn't worth trying to sort the cylinder (new one was £12 delivered), but it took me a week to find time to fit it - during which time I just made do with no clutch!

Still remember it feeling rather odd being able to do a job like that which involved laying under the car but not having to jack it up...

I find it far easier rev matching up the gears than down! The box does help!

Never tried it clutchless though

That was always my big worry...

Seriously, clutchless changes on a BE3 'box can kill their [delicate] synchros very easily.. Many a BE3 has suffered this fate due to a broken clutch clip....

I remember when I had a clutch problem on my first car, the BX 19 TZD. Changing gear on that was getting very tricky, especially first gear. Turned out it had one of the older design of transfer lever (you know, the "L" shaped that then pushed the final external linkage). Well, I went down to the scrappy (my local Citroen dealership had micked me off when I asked if I could get an owners' manual, and some smartarse had said he didn't know owners came with manuals!), and found a newer BX, got the lever, rod and bolt off it, and swapped them over. Problem solved, and the clutch felt a lot lighter.

I do clutchless gearchanges most of the time going up the box, and about 1/2 the time coming down. Don't matter if it's a car, van or bus, fwd or rwd. When you have sciatica in the left leg there's sometimes not much option. I've never knackered a gearbox yet!

Now members of the clutchless club, imagine a busy roundabout ahead.......lets say the Whitemare Pool roundabout for example, and you have done the relatively simple task of driving 30 odd miles without the use of a clutch....probably only a handful of changes necessary... in a dagenham jelly mould....What do you do when you have to stop?

and how do you start off again? Tricky especially from the flat or slightly uphill, and of course there is the added pressure of possibly reducing the entire road network to a standstill by breaking down right on the roundabout in rushhour traffic.

Well it probably, or should I say definitely, doesnt do the starter much good-but you can become quite an artist at the controlled starting in gear lurch, and pick up the revs to avoid the stall, and off you go heading for the next series of matching revs clutchless changes.

Yes in summary, complete lunacy should have just pulled in where it was safe and called the AA and turned in late.
