It's in the CPH module under the dash on the passenger's side... Remove the glovebox (and possibly airbag if you have large hands!) to get at it...

Hi Jim

Is the CPH visible once the glovebox is removed ? In case I need how the airbag is removed ? I guess the battery should be disconnected at least 30 minutes before removing it.

Thanks

Yes, it is just visible on top of the air trunking... You will see it has the transponder module and TrafficMaster module piggy-backed on top of it...

Airbag can be removed once the glovebox is out. It is held in with many small nuts.

Yes, disconnect battery 30mins before starting work...

Hi Jim

I removed the glovebox and sow the transponder module. What is this "TrafficMaster module" I think that it is not fitted on my car. BTW why so many wires are connected to the transponder ? How can I check if the transponder is functioning ? Of course if the guy who installed the aftermarket transponder had not cut so may wires it was easy to check if it functions. If there any wire that I can hook a multimeter and see if it is effected once I press the lock/unlock buttons on the remote key ?

Thanks

TrafficMaster was (is still?) a UK system that alerts the driver to traffic news by playing a message through the radio.. Yours is indeed unlikely to have it...

If the engine starts then the transponder is good. It's only a tiny box on top of the main CPH box which should have two large plugs and lots of wires going to it... The transponder only has two small plugs and few wires...

As well as the alarm, the CPH controls central locking, interior lights and ignition immobilisation (in conjunction with the transponder) as well as receiving and decoding signals from the plips. It does a lot...

Hi Jim

Isn't the immobilizer transponder attached on the ignition switch ? As the key has an RF ID device the transponder should be near the key . So the CPH communicates with the remote key and ( I know that each the key and the CPH communicate the code is changed and the new code is transmitted from the CPH to the key electronics) , and opens/closes the doors. BTW with the original system will the windows automatically lifted when a lock command is send from the remote key to the CPH ?

Thanks

No, all that's on the ignition switch is the antenna to communicate with the RFID chip inside the key...

Note that the transponder, CPH and engine ECU are all a matched set and cannot be individually replaced.. All three must be replaced as a set.

Hi Jim

Can't you make a matched set if you using a Lexia ?

Thanks

No, the ECUs are one-time-only programmable as a set unfortunately...

Once they're programmed, that's it for good.

If one is faulty then you need to get a set from a scrap/donor car and then for that set you must know the confidential access code so that you can train the keys and plips to the CPH using a Lexia...

It's not straightforward at all.

Where is the RF ID chip ? Is it part of the key electronics or is it inside that little black molding of the key ?

I think that once I tried to check it by removing the electronics from the key. If I remember well I was still able to turn on the engine with no electronics in the key so probably the RD ID chip is in that molding .

Thanks

It is in the black moulding Zohar...

On a plip key it is in the circular black bit and you can see where it is if you look carefully...

So if one lost the keys his only option is going to a Citroen dealer provide the key code ( the one that comes with the car ) and get new ones from Citroen ? I guess the cost is high

Cost is not too bad.. I did one about three years ago... To programme the key you need the CPH confidential code and a Lexia... If you do not have the CPH code then most main Citroën dealers (at least in the UK) can supply it on production of vehicle documents showing the VIN and proof of ownership...

I'd expect this to be the case in most other parts of the world.

Is the Lexia able to program the RF ID chip as well ?

Thanks
