Activa wheel vrs Pallet

Post by Stickyfinger »

Activa wheel looses esp at 70-ish when overtaking !

Image

Thanks to a truck dropping a pallet into my path when overtaking on a three lane (dual my side) carriageway (no central barriers, truck coming the other way) and some quick movement, only the wheel/tyre suffered, no other damage surprisingly !

F@@k that was close....instant deflation, thank goodness for stiff tire walls on the VR rated tyres and the wonderful performance of Hydro suspension in this type of instance..

Arrrgh, nightmare - glad that was the only damage though, very lucky (in that sense).

Are you charging them for a new replacement from Citroen? (assuming they're still available...)

Nope, I have 4 spares, they were going to be a full set with track tires on :(

Now, what can I swap for an Activa wheel ? I am sure there are loads of them in your garages :)

I hope that this can be repaired as there is no cracking, anyone got experience of such ?

I was hoping to track down a spare set myself, to get refurbed.
Plus, I'm missing a centre cap on one of mine

Did the lorry stop? Its an insecure load so definately worth pressing the company as they won't want prosecuting and the wife is certain they are liable.

Might be worth using steelies for track wheels and keeping the activa set as spares as they aren't easy to come by.

I agree to both points. OK, the driver might cop it (if he secured the load), but imagine what would have happened if you had been in a normal car (and not the Activa). It would have been far more serious.

Keep the Activa wheels for show, and the steelies for major fun (out on the tracks).

OK, so you have lost an alloy and had an exciting day (not the sort you would have wanted, but it is very nice to know the Activa protected you when other cars probably would not have been so safe. However, I would still follow it up and speak to the transport company. At the very least you deserve an apology.

He did not see it, and he did not stop.

I was way to busy in the outside lane (which was now reducing to a single) and worrying about the said truck that I was now needing to cut in on whilst not braking like a spud and loosing it. It vibrated a fair bit and had instantly deflated, so a bit busy to notice any name. No other car stopped and boy do I love changing a wheel on a fast A road :), had my High Vis vest on and triangle out first like a good boy.

It's technically repairable but I doubt many would look at it. There's plenty of easier quids waiting.

Gosh, scary Alasdair  Main thing is you're OK.

Did this happen on the road up to Nunney Catch?

blimey thats a good impact! there are lots of places that advertise to be able to fix flat spots etc, mostly modern 4by's who have silly big wheels and no give in the tyres, But, it would probably cost more than a replacement!
i also agree with the guys on steelies for tracking! mk1 c5 steelies were very light and hugely sought after for such by the vtr/s-gti brigade!

Tbh for track use, you'd be far better off getting a set of bigger rims that take a lower profile tyre than sticking with the standard Activa alloys anyway.
My experience thinking back to when my activa was actually on the road and I got enjoyment driving it ;-) is that the car was far more competent than the tyres (which were initially michelins all round and then I also tried toyo proxes on the front because they came in for dry grip praise on lots of other performance forums). No matter how much grip from the tread, the sidewall height was a hinderence.

The tyre profiles on an activa are picked for road comfort use, you'll get much much better grip on a track from a set of stiffer lower profiles.

What pcd are Xantia's?
