Feu Orange king of air freshners?

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Well don't ask me how i got there, I don't know but this post on "Retro Rides" did bring back some memories for me
Does anyone know what happened to the original Feu Orange air fresheners? You know, the ones on a goldy looking chain that you stick a pin into. I want my car to smell like my Dads Cortina did in 1976. I want an air freshener that is so strong I need to open the window. I want to get in the car and be reminded of drinking too much fizzy orange pop and throwing up on the way to flamingoland as a kid. Anyway, rant over. Does anybody know where I can buy an old one, or better still a box of them as the new ones are crap!

The conclusion many arrived at is that the truly original Feu Orange, would be far too dangerous to produce in the more enlightened times we are living in now and couldn't possibly be supplied with a pin, and potential seepage of the highly concentrated liquid essence stripping paint from Volkswagen dashboards.

So here's the original.

Any memories provoked French Car forumers and what is your fragrance of choice and method of dispensation now :!:

Now here is an Original Feu Orange in situ in a 1984 Triumph Acclaim. You can only sit back and admire the brown plastic!

One problem if you do happen to buy what is an increasingly rare original now....the liquid may have turned to gel given the passage of time.

The magic tree, has been going ever since Canadian-born chemist Julius Sämann invented the Little Trees air freshener in 1952 in a small city called Watertown in Northern New York State, when a milk truck driver complained to him about the smell of spilled milk.

Interesting in its 60 odd fragrances, orange isn't one of them!

Not exactly air freshners, more the type of thing for a more masculine candlelit bath :)

I once hid a whole ripe Brie under the dashboard of someone's Transit over a long hot Bank holiday weekend. This was about 20 years ago - if you could track down the Transit now, it'd probably still smell of cheese :-D
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(
