Xantia front strut leakage returns

Unread post by Dommo »

Hi all

Apologies if there is a thread on this somewhere, I did look but couldn't see anything obvious beyond the usual hose replacement.

My query is regarding to the rubber part that is clipped to the strut, that the hose comes out of. Today while replacing a wheel bearing, bottom ball joint, drop link and track rod end (all to try cure a new grumble and a long-standing clonk) I noticed that the leakage return hoses were cracked, so I followed the hoses around to where they mount into the struts and noticed that the rubber on the struts look awfully perished.

Are these rubbers replaceable or do you need new struts??

Thanks very much. Dom.

The rubber block comes attached to the new hose, they are one piece.

They also come with a metal securing clip which I have never had any success with so I use a couple of cable ties.

I didnt have scucess with the clip untill i got the proper pair of clip pliers to do them.. now all the cpipped hoses are reuseable now.. so handy having the peoper tool..

If your clever you can also remove the metal 0late from the clip and put it on a hose clamp with worm drive and hold it on that way.

sorry to pooooo pooooo yoour suggestion Sir Paul,
but i think if Joe public use a jubilee clip to secure the rubber block of the leg pipe, they will more than likely over tighten it to the point the edges of thew block curl outwards and leak, even using the metal plate from the original clip

Thanks for the replies guys that's great. I have ordered the leakage returns from Citroen, should be in by Wednesday hopefully. Here's hoping they don't leak before then - sods law and all that!

Out of interest citroenxm, what do the proper clip pliers look like so I can source some?

Cheers.

They do look similar to the tool we have, ours differ in that both jaws have the cut out in them, and they don't open as much as those ones. I think they're a pair of cutters to remove the insulation from around a cable, but they seem to work for the type of clips that hold the LHM pipes to the tank.

It would probably be worth me getting some proper ones for the job...

Cheers
