Not much grass here! and quite rugged looking from the outside

but inside
Jeeps may make great off-road vehicles, but for towing things? Not so great. So instead of trying to pull an Airstream behind your Wrangler, why not combine the two and drive the Jeep Action Camper (€40,000; roughly $54,000)? Designed for two-person expeditions and built on the Wrangler Unlimited, the Action Camper offers a pop-up roof, a fiberglass body, a king-size bed, plenty of storage, a mini-kitchen with three-burner stove and refrigerator, a toilet with optional kitchen sink shower, and a fold-up dining area. Basically everything you need, packed in to one rugged, relatively small package.
"luxury" as one of the four Yorkshiremen might have said.

70s - 80s coaches and buses often go for stupidly cheap money. Mate of mine not long ago picked up a taxed and tested Ford based Plaxton Supreme (IV I think) coach at auction that was perfectly serviceable and only really needed a bit of paint and a seat retrim to get it back to looking smart.

Cost him £250 - and had over £300 quids worth of diesel in the tanks! It's not hard to pick a pretty decent one up for a couple of grand or less. Real bargains if you have a cat D license are the likes of the Alexander PS bodied Volvo B10M step entry buses. They're basically just being killed off because of the DDA regs. The MD of Bluebird a few years back said to me that if I'd come to him with £750 that he would have made absolutely sure that he got me a good one, the scrap value being about £650. I always reckoned one would make a fantastic basis for a motorhome. If I had somewhere to put it (oh...and the licence!) I'd have had his arm off. Especially as a PS bodied B10M is a joy to drive. Not quite up there with the Cummins L10 powered Olympian...but more due to the noise than anything...

Sadly things are trickier now that they seem to have killed off the old loophole which allowed a 30+ year old PCV to be driven with less than 8 passengers on a normal car license. Imagine that's really made a lot of people with preserved buses very unhappy...and likely made early 80s stuff even cheaper.

I found any volvo b 10m were good to drive. The ps bodied were good, the Plaxton premier coach good, most stagecoach ones were auto, but there was an odd manual. For me though the best coach I drove was for Hays of Huntly, a volvo b10m vanhool body H261XDS Last I knew of it the engine blew on route to Edinburgh on a long uphill pull with an inexperienced driver flat out in 4th instead of just easing off a bit and keeping the revs in the green sector. It had the smoothest gearbox and clutch of any I have driven. I miss driving coaches, I did not renew my licence two years ago due to medications I'm on that vosa don't like, and liable to be on these meds forever so don't think I'll be driving one again [emoji26] [emoji174]

Only driven a couple of Premieres, one was a seriously dumb auto that drove me spare, the other was a six speed manual which went well (once you just worked on the assumption that none of the gears had any syncromesh facility left). Think the trainer was a bit startled to discover someone less than 25 at the time who knew what double declutching was. Still fun trying to do it downhill when you needed three feet...

Think I know the Hay's bus you mean actually, they provided many of the coaches our primary school (Fisherford) used for school trips in the mid to late 90s when I was there. Need to have a nosey through my old school trip photos and see if my memory is right.

PS is a lovely bus as a driver...just a shame passengers moan about them so much! Only thing better than a B10M based one is a Scania K.113 based PS, of which Bluebird had two for a while. If you can afford to put diesel in it anyway...they went like a scalded cat and sounded lovely. 5mpg on a good day though!

I've done quite a few miles in a scania k 113 vanhool at Deveron coaches in Macduff. It was a flier, the limiter didn't work and many a time i did rail replacement in it and once did Dundee station to Aberdeen station in less than an hour! Passengers were impressed that I arrived far quicker than the train would! It was my last run of the day and I was coming home after 4 days b&b in Aberdeen, hence the flat out [emoji4]

A whatsthisthen? a very nice 2-tone, and who knows probably a classic under £10k as well!- just for the horizontal wheelers from the granite city of course :) This yellow and cream beauty is one of the residents at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond near Dunfermline

Lovely collection of images here from filkr titled Far North Buses. As well as some lovely old buses, there's the scenery as well!

At that age being an AEC, probably a Reliance if memory serves. Sadly no chance of identifying the body, bit early for my knowledge! Late 60s onwards I've got more of a chance.

...There goes my evening. *vanishes to go and have a rummage through that Flickr gallery*

Spot on Zel, but having delved a little deeper I find that the nice yellow and cream AEC Reliance has gone from the museum now

I think Aberdeen Corporation's Pea Green and Cream livery is probably an acquired taste...

First still have ownership of a Daimler CVG6 in that livery (lovely driving beast from my brief sample behind the wheel and several runs out as a passenger). Sometimes at the depot as it goes out on quite a few hires and sometimes out at Alford. CFG325C is the plate I think...not fighting with Flickr on my phone to check just now!

PS: going by the streetlight there that photo I am assuming is late 60s to early 70s? Think most of the Revo Festival lanterns there had started to be replaced with more efficient SON based lanterns by the late 70s.
