Ooooh...will have to put that in the calendar.

Hopefully they will have kept it as it was at its best.

Still think one of my favourites was the one and only properly successful speedboat episode - when the camera crew couldn't keep up with it. The looks on the faces of the presenters were classic!

We are and our first project is a V6 powered sphere tester....

We do find winding the handle very tiresome

Don't forget the power take off to your kitchen, Jim. Think of all the useful things you can do with it; blender, coffee grinder, food mixer, and so on. Another power take off to run tools in the workshop would also be useful.

And put a generator on the end of it and sell the surplus back to the national grid...

I see a profit in this, especially if the V6 could be made to run on poo as the Bath bus fleet does now...

That's a very good question

The buses in question don't have seats, they have toilets..

Or so the pictures on the sides of the buses would suggest...

Brings a whole new meaning to 'Couldn't give a s**t...'

Still wish I had photos of the farm buggy I helped some friends build a few years back that was made in true Scrapheap Challenge style. It consisted of the chassis of a dead Land Rover 90 that got rolled, the engine (but no electrics!) From a Jeep Cherokee that got T-boned by a truck and had sat in the corner of the yard, the carbs off a Jag XJ40, ignition system from a Ford Granada, and I think most of the other running gear was a hybrid of Transit and Land Rover bits with some bits of Lada and Talbot Horizon for variety. Built in a couple of days and surprisingly it worked...went like a scalded cat too! Can't remember what brakes we used, but they worked well so I'm sure they weren't from the Landie. Having said that it was just a chassis, running gear, roll cage and two seats so didn't weigh much.

Every component involved was scrap even down to the nuts and bolts used.

Need to give them a shout sometime and see if it's still there and going. Know by the time I moved away it had taught several local kids the basics of driving.

I was only one of the team to be fair! Most of my work was just bolting stuff together, the complicated stuff like making manifolds from scratch (with scrap!) and making totally the wrong gearboxes fit different engines was done by the others. Scavenging the ignition system from the Granada to replace the stuffed electronic system from the Jeep (the immobiliser would also have been an issue as we had no idea where the key was) was my idea though.

That poor engine can't have known what happened to it between losing both the injection system and electronic ignition! Didn't seem to mind though, even if the fuelling usually seemed a little on the rich side at higher revs (not surprising really as the carbs were jetted for a 4.2 rather than 4 litre engine), but the only issue that really seemed to cause was a little smoke when used in anger and flames out the exhaust on the overrun. We decided that fun element was worth keeping!
