C5 Heater fault

Hi , I've searched this forum for an answer to my problem to no avail. Help, The heater on my 06 plate C5 1.6 estate has decided to refuse to blow hot on the drivers side . The passenger side works OK and the drivers side directs air to the correct vent but only cold . All help gratefully received , Or I sell it to an Eskimo taxi driver in Africa. regards john.

They have a dual zone heater so a separate temperature control flap for each side, its usually the passenger side that packs up as it has on mine, yours sounds like the drivers side. Mine can sometimes be unstuck by turning both sides to max temp before starting, or turning the problem side to min and then max while driving. There is a problem with the shaft on the servo motor.

On the facelift C5's it's not an issue generally with the length of the motor spindles but the fact the shaft on the internal flaps deteriorates over time and then shears.
You can get replacement flaps at a reasonable cost from Citroen (£65 ish I think) but it requires dashboard out to replace them. I've done this and it isn't as bad as you think.
I will post up all the previous topics I found once I get home tonight.
Before you do anything else check that it isn't the motor itself which has failed. Can you hear it whirring when you move the controls from hot to cold and back. If not then check the connections although the drivers side is a bugger to get at!!

The C5 II inherited its heater box from the Peugeot 407. The old motor shaft issue that afflicted the early C5s does not apply.

It will be the heater flaps.

Car Mechanics magazine will publish an article on this (in the summer).

Thanks for that , I've found some videos on youtube showing how to fix this. I'm going to go the dash out route , as soon as I find out how to take the Airbag below the steering column out . If you know pass it on.

I saw that one but as it's the drivers side there's not a lot of room and with my luck the other side would break next month.

The dash out route is probably the best in my view as it means you can get at everything.
If you are following the Haynes BOL then there are a few shortcuts which make it a whole lot easier, including not having to remove any airbags and taking out the steering column assembly in one piece rather than in bits like the book says.
I'm afraid I'm off to bed now as up early but tomorrow I will find all my posts on this and let you have the links. I have some photos somewhere too which might help.

I have the same problem which happened (Sh"t happens) 5 weeks ago. Fortunately it's the passenger's side here (driver's side in UK).

As a quick solution I just taped the right side in the center dashboard and also covered the opening under the front right seat. At least I know what to do next when the weather gets a bit warmer.
