Well its not quite the right Sunbeam Alpine but interesting all the same and well under the 10K ceiling at £5,995.

Plenty under £10K, but this is a bit over, but it is Mediterranean Blue with only 13,500 miles.

The "winner", the Fiat 124, is available at 11,900 euros for this 1968 example located in Brescia

This 164 is decscribed as "Volvo 164E in condition 3" first time I have come across that term so looked it up.

If this article is right it translates into 70-80% somewhere between

80% FINE A Completely operable vehicle that is possibly an older restoration or an original car that shows minimal wear. a car with an 80+ rating is usually considered show quality.

70+ VERY GOOD A NICE and complete car, possibly an older restoration that might be showing signs of age.this rating might be used for a very pampered daily driven vehicle.

At an auction guide price of £1,100 seems potentially quite a bit of car for the money.

The pictures make that car look a lot better than it is. Condition 3 is the bottom of the ladder grade. The fact it made £4677 is unbelievable!

Funny how you start noticing things once your attention has been alerted.

At about 1 minute 40 odd seconds of this clip I posted up in "The Motor Show" thread, the commentary starts worrying about "the ever increasing number of foreign cars" and shows a few examples of the invaders which starts with a yellow Renault 12, and then this rather nice Volvo. The stills are a bit shaky , but I was impresssed with the leather interior, looked pretty sumptious to me!

Its 1973, and its big...I presume its a 164 but I may be wrong.

Looks like a 164...

I remember Car Mechanics magazine of the era had much print area devoted to the problem pages.. All were headed by the maker so you'd have a section for Austin, Morris, Ford, Hillman, Valuxhall, Riley, Woseley and so on and then the last one 'Foreign' where all the others ended up...

There's every chance that that Volvo had the very latest wonder seat fabric, VINYL, almost everything did at that time. When they started introducing cloth trim it was quite a selling point, around '75 IIRC.

Just had a peruse down the list of cars coming up for sale at Dorset Vintage & Classic Auctions 19th March 2015 Dorchester.

Amongst others with a guide price under £10,000 there is

A slightly tatty Range Rover (guide price £1000-£1500)

Image

A Volvo 131(guide price to £4,750-£5,250)

Image

A 2-tone 1962 Vanden Plas Princess 3-Litre (£6,000-£7,000)

Image

They are also anticipating achieving nearly £15,000-£18,000 for a Morris Minor van, which is more than expected for the 1973 TR6!
