1.9 xud cam belt change help please :)

hi guys hope ur all well long time no see!!
lifes been ok my boys 8 months now and doing good
well i was hopeing for some advice as my little 306 is porly
went fishing at longleat had a great weekend,on the way back jus getin on m4 and the sound of stones being flicked up happened...the road had no stones and suddenly she started to sound like a tractor!:( got back to swindon (limping) and popped the hood....oooh wheres my aux belt gone??? well thought the tractor noise was because of electrical so tested everything and all was good ...done some research and read it might have jumped a tooth...ive locked her up and found yes it was seaminly 1 on cam and 2 on pump....so (long winded i do appologise!) i basically need some tips for refiting a new belt (can do a hdi aint done a xud)

Just a thought (but not certain), if you have a Haynes manual for a Xantia, wouldn't it help (as it may cover the 1.9 XUD in said Xantia)?

one quick question thou...the pump sprocket i have 2 m8s in but still a little play...would you turn it clockwise or ant1 while fiting the belt,same sort of prinsible as 3 bolts on cam of hdi..?

Taffy, there should be no play in her pump sprocket at all when locked with M8 bolts. That may bear investigation and may have some bearing on the original slippage.

How much play exactly?

im jus bein fussy its nex to nothing cam is tight think its the bolt style

There usually is a tiny bit but just a fraction of one tooth. The important thing is to crank the engine two turns BY HAND softer fitting the belt. This is to ensure nothing is hitting and make sure that even if you are out a tooth no damage will occur when you start the engine

Absolutely yes, this task is critical when doing any cambelt...

Fail to do this at your peril...

amount of times i done i t on my hdi u would have thought i was trying 2 start it lmao! at least it was only a rocker and not a valve!
