Xantia foglamp odity (s2)

Unread post by Timmo »

So, today was chosen as they day to Battle with S'Faf! first and easy job was meant to be swap bulbs in front fogs as they stopped working, they did work, then they didnt, but a tap of the lens made them work again! :?: :? got my self a pair of new bulbs just incase, set about popping the headlamps out etc. to get to them,
swapped first bulb over and checked them, Nothing,
Swapped second bulb, Nothing,
took bulbs out and checked them, all fine,
checked headlamp connectors incase they were linked, all good,
checked fuse, all good, changed it anyways, Nothing,
checked the voltage at the fuse, just under 12v,
Checked voltage at the foglamp 0.01v!
now, i think that may be part the issue??? but without wanting to pull the whole front end off and look i gave up and set about the rear abs sensor! ;-)

Am i correct in thinking that there should be 12v or close too at the foglamp??
am i going to have to pull the bumper off and investigate the looms??

Any idea's / hints or tips on this would be gratefully received, i use the fogs more for lanes lighting up the edges than anything else, although i have just put some yellow film over them to go for the original look!! ;-) (and also a bit of protection over stone chips, )

Timmo.

I believe that somebody had a similar problem, and found it was a wiring issue in the loom that runs behind the front bumper. I cannot remember more than that.

Although I think it turned out to be a problem with the headlamp washer pump - which I doubt yours has. Might be the fuse though...

I have exactly the same problem on my Activa. Not yet looked in detail but I fear it's the loom...

a quick glance at the manual to find the location of the incab ones, is the rear fogs fuse, the rears do work as checked that yesterday, so looks more likely that its a loom issue, Bumm!!

Check your froglamp relay is pulling in - it's one of the green or yellow ones in a row of three relays, in the engine bay box.

Pull it right out, turn on the fogs, plug back in and you will feel the contacts draw closed if it's working.

Finally got around to having a good poke about on this today,
Passenger side light and indicator out to allow access to the loom , first job was check the loom direct from the battery, all good, checked voltage and 0, so poked around and pulled out the other loom runs from the area, one is the indicator which i had forgotten I'd taken out  the one that was connected and another that had been floating around gathering dirt, so, looking at them, one was grey (indicator), one was grey ouside and purple inside - was connected the other was purple in and out and had been floating around,
So the end of the loom for the lamps was purple, matching the end floating around in the bumper, plugged them together and Bingo! Fog lamps a working! Checked on sidelights, normal lights, full beemers, rear fogs on wuth the others and all seems to be okay, so kinda wondering why was connected to the other plug?? - would that be the loom for lamp washers??

But seems is all good now, thanks for the help again guys, massively appreciate it!

Timmo, delighted you found the problem :-D I fixed mine too. Same connector different problem. I had some corrosion on it...

There's always spare connectors knocking round under the bumper. I found all the cruise control wiring on mine although it is unused. Also, you'll find the wiring for headlamp washers even if they're not fitted...

many parts of the loom are common to all models, especially on an S2...
