It's not hard at all. Airbag off, wheel off. Remove connections, swap comes units and reassemble.

Comms units are not cheap though. There's a chap in Bradford who can repair them though either if you take the car to him or send him the unit

Hi Colin,

I have a C5 2001 2.0lt HDI LX with the same problem as yours. When I bought it the previous owner said he'd taken it to a garage who told him it could be costly "to get to the bottom of". So if you fix yours can you give me an update on the solution please? For the past 5 years I have been running with side lights on during the day, I did hear if this becomes law in UK we'd all have to run with day time side lights anyway...

Thanks Jeff

There are lots of different units, Colin. I would be wary of a second hand one - it may be no better than the one you've got and / or not last very long! If you post up the last 8 digits of the VIN I can confirm the OE part number, but to match a SH unit, you will probably need to get it off, and get the actual makers number off it. Easy to fit (once you get past the air bag!) - no need for a diag computer, unless it's got ESP (which I don't think it has?).

My lights would sometimes switch on in the day. Put on a new unit from the dealer. Had to have steering angle sensor calibration done due to having esp. As said there are many different versions so be aware second hand ones.

Think approx £220+vat ish. Not cheap but does feel good as the indicator and wiper stalks feel really nice and tight being new.
