locking wheel nut removal

Post by citronut »

i had to remove a set of these from a customers car, the car is a 54 plate 307 with OE locking nut, my customer bought the car about a year ago,
she bought it to me to service and MOT it,
i went to remove the wheels to discover no wheel nut tool to be found anywhere,

spoke to my customer who didnt even know what a locking wheel nut socket looked like #-o

so i thought i'd take the easy option and phone round my tyre shops,
the first one says they dont have any wheel nit removal tools,

the second said the same but directed me to a local breakdown/recovery company

http://www.elvarecovery.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i gave them a call and they said they could do the job and if it was straight forward i could just give them a drink for there time, otherwise it could take up to an hour,

they own one of these

http://www.dynomec.co.uk/video.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

which removed the nuts with ease and they charged me £20 quid

very impressed 8-) 8-) =D> =D> :dom: :dom:

bongo job sorted
Regards, malcolm.

You know the Dynomec isn't that dear?

The makers appear to have tweaked it slightly, too - it seems to be less at risk of damage to the counterbore where the nut sits. I'd like one for the occasional time when there is no better option.

I often forget the 20% impost on your economy. Still, in a dozen uses charged out at £20, you'd be close to level pegging.

I was lucky, got them off the C5 no problem, and they wont be going on again. Whoever had done all the brakes not too long before I bought it had tightened the wheelnuts to correct torque by the feel of taking them off, and had only put the lockers on tight but no more. Makes a change, but ties in with the last owner saying he maintained it himself and knowing what he was doing.
