Removing Xantia S1 Gear-knob

Unread post by Old-Guy »

I know it's not original, but now it's been cleaned up, I fancy fitting the nice wooden gear-knob from the VSX to the green lady. I had assumed that they unscrew but there's no locking nut and I don't want to destroy the rubber bush by applying to much force. Does anyone know for certain how to remove and refit please?

Yes, and use a lever to pull it. Keep your head out of the way if you just haul it up by hand as the natural trajectory will put it straight between your eyes when it comes off. #-o

The last time I pulled and yanked and swore and pulled and yanked some more until I thought I was going to pull the bloody gearbox out - nothing!, not a damn thing, never moved a jot. Put the kettle on (tea always helps), went back to it and just gripped it and with next to no effort it came off with ease.

Must remember that then - fortify myself with a fresh mug-full before starting the struggle.

Warning very necessary: sitting in driver's seat, grasped knob with both hands and heaved upwards with face well clear. Waggled it slightly fore & aft while heaving even harder - and it suddenly shot off - nearly hit the roof lining!

For the benefit of anyone one else removing a Xantia gearknob, this is what the naked gearstick looks like

It pays to disconnect the gaiter first!
