Relay van 2000 clutch problem

Hi Guys

Clutch pedal dropped to floor with a "snapping" sound, managed to coax it home, found a piece of broken black plastic on floor of van, trying to remove the cable so I can see the end of the cable that fits to the clutch pedal but cannot work out how it comes apart, any help please

If it is like that on a Xantia, the black clip (which was of a poor, weak design) has been replaced with a cream clip that has a better design. The clip (and spring clip) were still available 18 months ago.
