xantia front end rattle again

Hi all, I've been chasing a rattle for a while that turned up suddenly. I have new drop links, rod ends, ball joints in the last year so I suspected the wishbone bushes but there's no movement in any. I then got underneath and found movement in the steering rack. It looked like the whole thing was loose at first then realized it was the passenger side track rod moving and moving the pas ram with it.

I'm sure this is the cause of the rattling now. But why is it moving here? It feels like the rack itself is loose not the inner track rod joint. I'm guessing there's bearings the rack moves on that are worn out but how to change them and can they even be sourced?

I recall my old gsa had a similar problem that turned out to be a spring loaded plunger in the steering rack that was sticking and the solution was to heat it up from the outside whereby it popped back out against the inner rack. I can't see anything similar on the xantia though. Any ideas?

maybe check the steering rack uj?
if u lookunder driver side arch u can see it aswell as down the back left side of engine..get some one to rock the steering and keep ur eye on it..as i recall it did rattle

Cheers, trouble is I can see the slackness at the other end of the rack so it's definitely at the passenger side.

me too!
yeah they are getting aged now but i would prefer one to a new car...i always modernise my cars..nice lights gadgets etc
makes it feel alot newer!

There is a rack support bushing in the end of your rack housing. It does sometimes fail.
