C5 Stereo replacement

Unread post by cpikey316_ »

Ok, now I *think* i've got the engine problem sorted, its time to start making the C5 a bit more fun to be in!

Starting with a new head unit! Now, my dad (who has a MUCH newer C3) has been looking into it, and apparently the car will throw a wobbly if I plug a HU into it as it is. I don't want to do this however, as I do like the stalk controls, so i've been looking into things, and found this....

Now this appeals to me, and i think I need these as well

Now, the question is, is that everything I need, or will there be additional parts/wiring harnesses I need?

You may need another cable as well if you have parking sensors.

What C5 do you have ? Mk 1, 2 or 3 ?
If its a mk1 then that should be all you need, the connects 2 adaptor even creates a 'fake' ignition live for you.

That should be all you need, changed mine for a top Kenwood unit and the leads to keep steering controls working.

I personally wanted a stereo with rear aux and usb out so I could put my usb stick out of sight and also look neater.

I also added a sub to the boot as I like the extra base. I changed all the door speakers to Kenwoods which came with the correct plug sockets so my exsisting wiring plugged straight in.

Hi Spikey I've got the same car as you and planned on getting this stereo for mine

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-DEH-X35 ... escription" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It looks like you have thought of everything and that is a very good website you have found to get the adaptors and faceplate. The only thing that might be a problem is retaining the existing cd multiplayer mounted under the drivers seat (if you have one) but as the stereo you are looking at lists 2 aux in ports you may be ok.

I recently took out my original citroen stereo to replace the fascia and took photos of the connections on the back. I can post them/PM them to you if you wish. Only thing I found with my citroen is that it had a major tantrum when I reconnected the battery! Lots of warning and error messages to do with the alarm, satnav, suspension etc. Had to leave it for 30 minutes with ignition off, then another 10 with ignition on but engine off before car settled down for me to be brave enough to turn the key! :-)

forgot to add that it looks like you will also need this adaptor as well as the one listed on your original post

Probably worth contacting them to confirm though :-)

Yes it does look like its for cars after 2004-my bad and didnt read that bit properly:-). What I did notice was that the stalk adaptor says

"The adaptor consists of two parts, these must both be purchased based on your vehicle model and choice of radio brand" Which implies to me that another adaptor is needed which also tallies with the number, size and colour of all the connectors found on teh back of the standard stereo unit. Best thing would be to contact them and confirm :-)

UPDATE!

Back to Halfords anyway, they've given me a returned example with no Mic kit!

On a useful note, where do we recommend mounting the mic and ow can I route the cable there?

Probably has bluetooth phone integration so you need the mic to talk into. Most people route the wiring up the a pillar and across to the interior light/rear view mirror position.

Interesting thought, I was thinking about just attaching it to the A pillar at the top. Is this a bad place for it to be?
