Correct Aux belt size?
Hello folks,
I am ordering a new aux belt (V-Ribbed Belt) online.
What is the right aux belt for Citroen C4 hatch, 1.4 Petrol, 88hp, year 2004, with A/C ?
For my car, I found these:
Number of ribs: 6.
Length: 1050, 1070, 1125, 1145 (mm) ? which one?

Aneesh,
Even service.citroen doesn't know! It depends on what AC compressor is fitted. 1736 if it's a Sanden, 1750 if it's a Delphi.

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
Is the belt so badly worn you can't read the length on the belt? ie 6PK 1736

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
Actually the belt is not that worn. Just I should try to get the belt to stop where I can read, and i tried starting, stopping the engine a couple of times and couldnt get it.
The car is 15 years old, and driven 114000 miles. Do you think I should worry about changing the belt for preventive maintenance? it doesnt squeal or make any sound.

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
Put the car in second gear (handbrake off) and nudge it backwards using your knees
watch the belt go by.

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
I wouldn't recommend turning the engine backwards by pushing it backwards in 2nd gear. Not good for the valves...Stewart(oily) wrote:Put the car in second gear (handbrake off) and nudge it backwards using your kneeswatch the belt go by.

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
It only moves a few degrees each nudge, easy to see the valvegear when doing clearances, never had a problem.Mandrake wrote:I wouldn't recommend turning the engine backwards by pushing it backwards in 2nd gear. Re: Correct Aux belt size?
I finally managed to read the length on the aux belt. It was some alphabets followed by 1755!
The citroen website only showed 2 options 1738 and 1750. So confused!

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
Then the correct length should be 1750.aneesh84 wrote:I finally managed to read the length on the aux belt. It was some alphabets followed by 1755!

I found two codes,
- Gates 6PK 1753 ......... length 1750 mm
- Continental 6PK 1750 ... length 1750 mm
Mark the direction on the old belt before removing it.
In case you have to re-install it you should fit it so that it's same direction.
Measure the old and new belt by stretching together. Belt tensioner can fix
some mm changes

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
The HDi has a manual eccentric tensioner as well, so you may well need to adjust that to get the new belt on / get the auto tensioner in the right place.
Thought...if the aux belt hasn't been replaced at 114k, has the cambelt....????

Re: Correct Aux belt size?
Yes I recently got the cambelt replaced. Thats when the mechanic told me that I could get the aux belt replaced next service, though not that urgent.
