Correct Aux belt size?

Unread post by c4tobe »

Hello folks,

I am ordering a new aux belt (V-Ribbed Belt) online.
What is the right aux belt for Citroen C4 hatch, 1.4 Petrol, 88hp, year 2004, with A/C ?

For my car, I found these:
Number of ribs: 6.
Length: 1050, 1070, 1125, 1145 (mm) ? which one?

Aneesh,

Even service.citroen doesn't know! It depends on what AC compressor is fitted. 1736 if it's a Sanden, 1750 if it's a Delphi.

Is the belt so badly worn you can't read the length on the belt? ie 6PK 1736

Actually the belt is not that worn. Just I should try to get the belt to stop where I can read, and i tried starting, stopping the engine a couple of times and couldnt get it.

The car is 15 years old, and driven 114000 miles. Do you think I should worry about changing the belt for preventive maintenance? it doesnt squeal or make any sound.

Put the car in second gear (handbrake off) and nudge it backwards using your knees :) watch the belt go by.

I wouldn't recommend turning the engine backwards by pushing it backwards in 2nd gear. Not good for the valves...

It only moves a few degrees each nudge, easy to see the valvegear when doing clearances, never had a problem.

I finally managed to read the length on the aux belt. It was some alphabets followed by 1755!

The citroen website only showed 2 options 1738 and 1750. So confused!

Then the correct length should be 1750.

I found two codes,
- Gates 6PK 1753 ......... length 1750 mm
- Continental 6PK 1750 ... length 1750 mm

Mark the direction on the old belt before removing it.
In case you have to re-install it you should fit it so that it's same direction.
Measure the old and new belt by stretching together. Belt tensioner can fix
some mm changes :)

The HDi has a manual eccentric tensioner as well, so you may well need to adjust that to get the new belt on / get the auto tensioner in the right place.

Thought...if the aux belt hasn't been replaced at 114k, has the cambelt....????

Yes I recently got the cambelt replaced. Thats when the mechanic told me that I could get the aux belt replaced next service, though not that urgent.
