You're racking them up faster than me. I'm at 230k. The car did just fly through it's MOT on emissions though, very clean indeed so the engine has got a lot of life left in her.

Do you run anything thru her to keep her clean Chris or just long journeys?

She is now only run on BP Ultimate and oil changes every 6k. She does about 70 miles a day of mixed A and B roads and I will take her to 4k every now and then to move things along a bit. I don't allow the dust to settle so to speak, I'm sure Paul's engine is in the same health.

Hmm, I tend to do about 10-15miles a day to work and back if that, and then 2 times a week a 20mile run to another office but tend to pootle along mostly, motorways spent behind lorries just relaxing and wafting along and runs on Sainsburys or Asda's diesel. I've put some two stroke in her a while ago to help burn things out and lubricate the pump parts but it only made about .5mpg difference. May find some cheap super diesel near me or some good bio to give it a try as i haven't used BioD for a long time now due to access and other projects

BioD - which needs to be WELL MADE - has been approved by PSA for the 8v HDi engine.

I used some - was given a tank full - and there was quite a difference. She actually enjoyed the fuel..

There is always the crux Paul, finding well made stuff is hard. A few disco guys are looking at getting into it and i've said to one that if he gives me the odd barrel load i could give him some cash and a boot and trailer load of wood to repay him for each one, and being a disco thats a fair decent amount of wood

The last guy i used retired as HMRC and newbs were becoming a pain

Well at last something to report on the xantia hdi..

Firstly 259,332 miles but yesterday the clutch release bearing started wineing.. ooohhhh it will last a while longer like that i thought... nope .. today on a day out it got worse and then pop the pedal went down and stopped down. Luckilly it was a 5th gear dual carrage way drive almost all the way home.. so for the first time with all the cars i have none are anygood. So im carless...

What to do.............. ?

just found a valeo brand new kit on ebay under peugeot 406... 49.95 plus post.. bank of mum here we come..

I know the feeling Paul! I have 4 and at least until Tuesday I have only 1 with an mot at the moment and hoping the xm passes but got worried this morning when i saw some black drops under front of the car

Done checking showed a rundown pipe that looks to come from a cup that sits from the oil filter. Omg what a stupid design and way to put an oil filter on a car in such a manner! Oh well at least it's easy to explain come the mot on Tuesday as I dropped it off today so fingers crossed for it and I pick the xantia up Monday so can get the abs sensor fitted and oil change done and drop it off for an mot when I go to pick the xm up so wish me luck for them both and keep your fingers crossed for me on both counts!!

Ha.. NONE of my other cars are any where NEAR getting an MOT!!

I DO wish you luck, I worked on the estate so thats also my judgement under the MOT man...

Anyway, a week without the car. The XM is in the work place, so AGAIN Ill have to find another spot to do the bloody thing.

Grrr it could of waited a week longer till the XM was done. I need to get a Heater Matrix for the XM yet too. Lucky I have the clutch!

Having been there earlier this year i know what its like not having a car when the FF first started giving me issues

Fingers crossed it gets sorted quickly

Do you think the matrix's go due to coolant not being done every 3 years and the fine particles building up in the system then cutting into the outer edges of the small pipes in them?

Hows the hunt for the XM matrix and HG going?

I dont know what causes them to go but ive not needed one in the last 100k ... and ive no idea if she has ever had one fitted either..

Set upon stripping the Xantia down to get it ready for putting the new clutch in when it arrives.

So, got the strip down done this morning.

Upon removal though, I discovered she WAS on her second clutch, NOT her original. There was a LUK clutch in there..









Well used hot pressure plate. Nice smooth Friction plate, which STILL did not Slip in operation, even with my trailer on the back! The release bearing HAD pulled out of the pressure plate - complete .. but the ball bearings in the release bearing had all broken loose inside it, and the bearing was very tight on the input shaft.

So, sitting now awaiting the new clutch.
