Berlingo Mk2 I.9D Brake Warning.

Presently holidaying in France with our 2005/05 1.9D Multispace Berlingo.

Once last week and multiple times today I've had the hand brake/low fluid light come on with flashing stop light and beeps from warning system. Each occasion on long descents and only present for short periods. Reservoir is definitely full to max and not losing. Will call Britannia tomorrow but has anyone any ideas?

Nothing else obviously untoward but we have however noticed a vacant electrical connection over the fluid reservoir:

On long descents using you brakes could be that the fluid is boiling but don't understand why that is putting the light on.

Does the brake pedal feel normal whilst this is going on ?

In response to Stuart the brakes feel absolutely normal. Since last illumination yesterday I've done another 20 kilometres without further incident.

The connector (?) on the master cylinder is in the second shot. The circular centre pin socket is on the right side of the pic. There is certainly also a level sensor connector present and correct just below the 'danger' mark on the reservoir and that may well be out of shot.

Does the light also do the pad wear warning? They may be just on the limit where the sensor is "just" contacting the disc.

The circular centre pin socket is not a socket at all but just a roll pin holding the tank to the master cylinder

I wonder if extended braking is using up all of the stored vacum in the servo ? maybe a split pipe in the vac plumbing ?

i dont think lack of vacuum would cause this fault,

I have replaced quite a few fluid reservoirs for this fault, the level sensor can't be replaced separately.
Unplugging the 2 pin brown (I think, could be black but it's defo only two pins) connector on the reservoir should make it stop to prove the level sensor is faulty, obviously you won't have any low brake fluid detection if its unplugged.

No further recurrence while in France or on the journey home. Car looked over by my Cit specialist on return to UK and no fault found. Did get them to replace fluid though as that was overdue.
