Hiya fellas, long time no speaky so I hope you all doing well
Its car for the family time with a 2.5k budget, must be a diesel and a decent family car as our next kid is due imminently, no Mondeos or Vectras considered, lol. Am thinking about this motor below, a mk3 Laguna, been offered it for £1850 (im know I have bought them for about £1400 at this age, this one seems above good nick) ) with a full Renault history and was wondering what you guys think?
Opinions welcome guys )

And irrelevant and how much I say I hate it I will be a little gutted to see the back of our old faithful Xantia

Re: New Family car time
That does look like a very tidy example of a Laguna. I'm not a fan of the 1.9DCi myself but many people do get away with them.
What about a Peugeot 407? They should just be in budget but try a 2.0HDi 138, its more suited and more reliable.
I guess you have thought of the obvious replacement, the C5? Really not bad cars and they are superb value for money. Your budget should get you a decent 2.0HDi 138 facelift.

Re: New Family car time
I've had a couple of Laguna 2 with the 1.9 Dci both without issues , this one does look a nice example with the service history , I personally would try to stretch to the 2.0Dci 150 bhp , a better engine all-round . I've got a 2008 Dynamique S estate with the 175bhp version and it's breath taking , without doubt the best diesel engined car I've owned (and I've had a few ) . The C5 facelift as Chris says is a great car with the 138 bhp Hdi .

Re: New Family car time
That Meguna (Laguna with Megane front end) is quite nice, not as nice as the Laguna but a lot better than the Mazuna (Laguna that looks like a Mazda they're currently flogging).
I had a '52 Laguna Privilege 100HP DCI called Sophie, and she was lovely and comfortable, with loads of power and made the most of the 6 gears. It showed just how poor the 90Hdi was.
Braking was better than the Volvo estates the police used in Hampshire 10 years ago, as I got caught doing just under 95mph on the M3 heading home from a night shift, and pulled over nearly too quickly for the police who asked why I'd slammed my brakes on (I hadn't, they were just bloody good!).
I did 74K miles in 2 years, mostly motorway from Reading to Grimsby (well Mingingham), and was very lax on the servicing due to the costs. Turbo went pop eventually and Renault replaced it under warranty despite my lax servicing record.
Loads of room in the back
The engine did have a fault with the fuel injection system where it would drop into limp mode until the car was rebooted. Problem for me was this nearly always happened on a motorway and I nearly always got a puncture!
I do miss it talking to me though.
I think when all the Xantias have gone to the great garage in the sky, I'll be hunting out a Laguna or Meguna and make sure I change the oil more regularly than the 20K Renault suggested!

Re: New Family car time
Well been running the Laguna for a few days now! On the first day 'Check Injector' on the dash with loss of power, read a few articles and everything pointed to the EGR so I whipped it out, and it looked like it had been dipped in tar then charcoal , gave it an overnight bath in Wynns carb cleaner so it came up brand new, popped it back in this morning and its like a different car! A little more power, economy in the 40's and no running issues at all, really didn't realize that a good working EGR valve could make so much difference to a car. Apart form that Im loving the new car
