Glow Plug Relay 306

Got it out but couldn't remove the cover.
Cleaned the contacts and Vaselined them to inhibit corrosion.
Sprayed the socket and matching plug with contact cleaner.
Refitted and discovered that the plug hadn't been fully clipped in place - it pulled out very easily but should have been retained by the spring clip seen in picture 2.
Also the positive high current connector screw was loose on the relay body - properly tightened up now.
He's going to work at five and will chuck his bike in the back in case it fails to start at one o'clock in the morning.

Worked fine today though, typically.

Spoke to him briefly today and he says it is working perfectly and even the gearbox is fine now (he was having trouble with 2nd to 3rd and 5th)
Probably something to do with the snow

Good to hear preheating is working, perhaps it was that loose multiplug as well as the high current cable a bit of vibration meant it only worked some of the time, I can see that with the multiplug at least, bit of resistance etc. Hopefully will stay working now.

If it does start (no pun intended) to act the fool again I'd be tempted to grab another relay, used one usually OK in most cases if needs ie: finances dictate that.

No. When problem started oil and swarf drained and new Total BV 75w80 added to box.

I rarely even notice a problem but don't drive it unless I have to as he smokes in the car.

Keeping fingers crossed as he expects to pass his motorbike licence in two weeks then will ditch the 306 and replace with a GSXR600.
He got the low speed bit on Monday after only two lessons on a 600 (no lessons on anything else either)

So does the temp sensor effect the glow plug relay and light?

Long gone now but if I recall correctly the light wasn't on when it should have been.

yes i belive it does, the warmer the engine the less the glow plugs run for

I think it varies, some models might use one of the sensors in the thermostat housing and some will have an ambient air temp sensor in the module itself.
