If you can hear the starter spinning it should be turning the engine, if it doesn't there's something wrong with it.

ok, changed the starter and it now starts no problem, well started 4 timed in a row, got it from a pug 206, nice and clean motor, can't have done very many miles, motor itself was not as fat as my old 1 but turns the motor over no problem.
