Well you can't get more on-topic than that!
posting a link to another forum, as I don't have time to re-translate:

I wonder if Toyota will be loudly advertising their French credentials?
Do we need a Yaris sub-forum?
PSA (and Toyota) officially make French cars

Re: PSA (and Toyota) officially make French cars
i thought Toyota had a reputation for high slandered's of build quality,
going by a toyota engined 56 plate C1 i worked on a while back were, they seem to be going/gone the same as all other manufacturing industries these days, building crap sub slandered products just to make a quick buck,
this particular car the clutch failed around 30 odd K miles and then the water pump completely fell apart,

Re: PSA (and Toyota) officially make French cars
The clutch and water pump are known weak points of the earlier c1/107/aygo range, later ones, the first facelifted ones from 2009 onwards had an upgraded clutch trom the toyota yaris, 190mm instead of 180mm which are much stronger and retro fitted to earlier models with no mods. My 107 had done over 50k when I sold it and had no issues at all. Was only changed because I needed better seats with more support. AFAIK the engine and box are toyota (japaneese) clutch and water pump valeo (french) The clutches are fine if treated properly, but do not withstand poor driving, slipping the clutch instead of using handbrake and other such bad habits.
