I'm not sure about availability of a backbox Chris for the Zx16v , the one that's on was fitted 2 1/2yrs ago new for it's MoT by the trader I got the car from , it's needed attention for the last couple of MoT's as the pipe that goes into the box is corroded , I would like a full stainless system but that's around £360 , it's just that the original middle box/pipe is in very good order so I'll probably just have a stainless backbox for now . I've got a few jobs on the doblo to do aswell so it's down to funds too , the Citroen specialist who is doing the timing belt and waterpump are charging £90+vat which I think is very reasonable as it is quite a job on the 16v engine . I just hope I can find some time to get to the exhaust specialist as I have got a busy week workwise coming up which will be paying for all the work I've got planned .

I see what you're saying Mark, I'm in a bit of similar situation with the C4...

With it being only three years old the exhaust is still in really good condition and nowhere near ready for replacement - I however fancy a change to the twin exit as they look so much better (and sound a bit nicer too!).

Trouble is, I just cannot justify the £350 for a custom made stainless system as it's in good condition but there's little off the shelf availability for the C4...

I can get a stainless backbox for around £185 Franklin which isn't too bad , then when the frontpipe needs doing I'll replace that in stainless too .

Is that a bespoke backbox Mark from a longlife-type-place?

£185 isn't too bad really and that I wouldn't mind....

It's from a company called exhausts Uk , they do a massive variety from standard cars , custom/kit cars etc and even Hgv's too , the local powerflow stainless franchise wanted a tiny bit more , I'm not sure on the price for a standard replacement backbox for Zx16v if they are still available ?

Well I've just got back from the Citroen specialist with the Zx which has now got a new timing belt and water pump fitted , they charged a pretty reasonable £132 for the labour and some antifreeze and the parts I got for a bargain £55 from a local motor factors , the belt was a dayco and the pump a QH . I thought I would give the Zx a little run so I called at the exhaust specialist for them to check out possibilities for a stainless system . Well once the car was up on the ramp the exstent of the rot on the rear box/pipe was very evident and also the front pipe wasn't looking too good either so it looks like it will be a full stainless system from the cat back , they quoted me £345 which doesn't seem too bad and there is a choice of tailpipe , which I think I will go for in an oval to match the existing to keep it pretty standard looking . They told me they would need a weeks notice so all I have to do now in convince my better half 8-[ . I've got a very busy week ahead next week and I would seriously like this done for Wetherby but wether or not I will is a different thing , I'll post up any further progress or see you at Wetherby with a nice shiny exhaust on [-o<

Good result on the timing belt!
Surely it's easy to convince SWMBO on this, you need a new exhaust to pass the MOT or even just to be legal!

The trick is to do the maths. Work out how long you have had the car, and how much the exhaust has cost you since you got her. Then you work out how much of a saving the stainless steel exhaust would save you over the same length of time. Then you show SWMBO the results (but be prepared for her to have a go at you for not doing this sooner!!!).

Bit of thread drift here, if no one minds.. there seems to be some ZX knowledge on here.. I'm on the lookout for a Volcane TD, if anyone comes across one in decent nick. Had an Aura for ages, great car. Always fancied a Volcane though.

I will keep a lookout Mike , very underrated car the Zx volcane . I've had a couple of 1.9i petrols and a friend had a 1.9td which was great .

I'm not sure if I've posted any of these pics of some of my old cars , if I have , sorry , if not , enjoy . I couldn't really pick a favourite out of them they were all fantastic . This red valver went very well but it ate tyres too  .

Image

This one was a nice one owner example , first pic on original speedlines .

Image

Now on 15" MiM imola's

Image

And now fitted on my 405 Mi16 ( sold this and bought the Bx above )

Image

And the Zx 1.9i Volcane I originally had them fitted too , lovely car this with superb handling a good ride and pretty good performance too (it would stay with the valver easily on the twisty stuff)

The best allrouder tbh was the Volcane , but the Bx runs it very close .
