Alternator bearing lifetime

Salut!
My Xantia 2.0HDi alternator bearing got in bad condition at 50Kmiles/4 years. Is this normal?
From watching the alternator after removal, I noticed a certain rusty on the mechanical connection point. Can this be related to the bearing problem?

Sounds a bit unusual. The alternator on my ZX was still sound at 150,000 miles with no bearing noise at all!

The alternator on my BX TD seized at 113k miles, but then it had been noisy ever since I got it at 66k, and when I checked at about 90k there was quite noticeable radial play in the alternator. I guess this was due to the belt being overtightened in the past.

The Mitsubishi 90 Amp alternator on my '93 XM TD 12 is still on it's original bearings at 530,000 km. However it is on it's third set of brushes.

Old ZX TD bearings packed up at 152k after water on to it. Took a small puddle a little too fast, well when I say puddle the wife reckons it was more like a brook.
