Well I have done the inevitable thing and bought yet another C5
Something strangely different about this one though, it is considerably easier to park, the boot is tiny and refinement is not quite what is has been in my last three C5s
Here is my new toy, please don't ask me why or what I am going to do with it. I have no idea! It is great fun though!
It's a Sinclair C5 from 1985.
I have always wanted to have a try of one, I have seen them in countless museums but never got the opportunity to see a functioning one. They have become quite collectable now and can fetch some money for good conditioned ones. I am amased at how much parts go for, the front wheel cover alone is nice to have and this one is fully functional and in tact.
I went and bought it this morning. I bought it without seeing it run as there is no battery but felt the price was right and I fancied the idea of one. I stuck a battery on it when i got home and nothing, until I replaced a blown fuse which had it springing to life. It must have done something like 5 miles with me and friends test driving it around a cycle route and it seems in very good mechanical order. It needs a good clean and the electrical display does not work to show battery condition or motor use. The display (or POD) is partially working as without it the motor does not function. It needs a replacement voltage regulator, which is a few pence and a few minutes work.
Following the buyers guide, this is the only fault, which is not bad going!
I definitely dont plan to run it on the road but for private land and cycle routes, it is a lot of fun!
