Citroen C5 2002 dual-zone climate control fault

Post by MaxPrimal »

Hi guys,

I have done a search and slightly confused by what I see so I hope you don't mind me asking this.

I have dual-zone climate control in my 2002 Exclusive 2.0l 16V Automatic. For a while I have occasionaly felt what I thought was a draft in the car which seemed to stop it warming up. Tonight after going to grab something I bought on Ebay after work, I figured it out. As I got in the car to go home, I quickly hooked my phone up to a charging lead and ran the (thankfully long) cable to the power point. As I did this I suddenly thought - uh oh... why is the heater blowing cold air? I glanced at the temp gauage and it was fine, then I realised it was only cold on one side of the centre vent. The passenger side was blowing cold air, the drivers hot air. This then explains the draft i thought.

I read on here about a cog or something stripping which can cause this problem, but others also hooked it up to a lexia for a test as well. My only access to a lexia is my local repairer (and he will charge me), so I am wondering short of that - that are the most common faults and are they easy to diagnose/fix? Is it something someone with basic skills can do - bear in mind the height of cars "maintenance" is changing filters, fitting car stereos/audio equipment and topping up fluids normally - tho I have striped the rear boot catch to components, cleaned it and got it working again.

I want to fix this quickly if I can and just want to know what to look for and how easy it is.

Thanks
Max

Sounds like a faulty servo motor, I have a similar problem with mine, the passenger side is hot all the time, I have heard of the 'stripped gear' syndrome but haven't investigated mine yet.

I had the same problem and was the servo that controls the air flow.
There is a modified part from the dealer with a longer shaft.

A search on here should get you some pics and a part number. The dealer had know idea of the modified part so I had to quote part number.

Thanks for the info. Is this bit easy to get to and replace or is it something for the more technically minded or general mechanic/enthusiast (none of which I am)?

Took me ten minutes to change is very easy.

Located in the passenger side on side of heater box. I would remove first to confirm the fault.

Thanks. I will try and get a look at it this week if I can get a couple of hours spare to deal with it.

Okay, Going to ask stupid question now: Where is this? I know where the heater controls are, I know where the internal pollen filter is. That is about it. Can you guide me as to where I need to look for this thing?

Thanks

Ok on the side where the pollen filter is there is a piece of trim that needs removing and then you should see the motors on the side of the heater box. Now it has been a while since I done this so not to sure which motor it was as there a few that look the same. I think there is some info in one of the links I posted.

The piece of trim that I think you need to remove is on the side of the centre console, hope that helps

Ok just looked at the links I sent you and it seems you remove the glove box which is really easy to gain access to the motor, I did say it had been a while since I done it.
