Who's fitted hid's to thier 01-05 c5
Cause i'm seriously thinking after tonight, i got Osram nightbreakers.....not impresred at all.....so is the next move hid. I've got them in the Pug and it's great, but it's a clear lens, the ones on the c5 are glass and ribbed so might not work as well

I've fitted them a couple of weeks ago, very impressed with the difference it makes. The drivers side was a real PITA to fit though, very limited space to work in. Beam pattern is fine on an MOT testing device.

You've got them and like them, the only thing that I'm not sure about is the glass ribbed lens, but you say on yours it's fine....maybe try them then, I've got other stuff to sort out too though (see other posts ) , but after being out at night, it's hellish on anything but well lit rds. But then at 135000, they've probably seen better days, I tried t cutting when I first got it, but did dam all.

My lens are plastic on the 02 model, not glass. I have seen plastic ones going yellow/cloudy and severely affecting visibility though. You can pick good used ones up on ebay for about £50.

Mine are too, it's the reflector that's ribbed

The lens is degraded/yellowed by UV from the bulb and the unit needs to be fitted with non-UV bulbs.

The glass envelope has UV filter characteristics.
My estate ones were awful and one of the current ones is too - car was crashed before I bought it and one of them is new. Really must get round to replacing the bad one.

I'm thinking of a more drastic solution to the dreadful lights on my C5. I'm planning to remove the entire headlamp unit and put something less useless in the hole. I'm not sure what yet but it will have a patterned glass lens and large reflector- as seen on page 1 of the, sadly out of print since the 1990s, "How to Design a Headlight" book.

Have you considered the headlight relay mod?
I was going to try it on mine then decided that the lights were OK for me, although I may use some Philips Xtreme Vision bulbs - they have (allegedly) a better beam pattern the gives more useful light than the Osram equivalents.

so is getting a couple of HID headlights from a scrapper an option?
Steve, I may do a voltage test on mine over weekend to see what the drop is.. and then do the relay..
My biggest problem, as had with my xantia, is the main beam seems to pool down in front of car, while the dips are just about fine...

Am assuming you are talking here of the voltage drop on the feed side, but it's also worth checking the earth side as well.jgra1 wrote:I may do a voltage test on mine
I've done the relay mod on my Xantia, but only on the dip beam (rarely use main beam). This gave a noticeable improvement. Easier enough similating what the lights might be like, by taking a temporary jump wire from the battery straight to the bulb (don't short it!).
I had a small voltage drop on the earth side, but I didn't bother upgrade the wiring - the length of earth cable is not very long. However, if you were tempted to use higher wattage bulbs, then you would need to consider upgrading the earth cabling.
