Electric seats front stuck on high crushing legs

Unread post by sprout »

Hi all,

Citroen xantia 2.0 HDi Exclusive 1999 V plate

I have been suffering with back pain for a while and thought I would have a play with the multitude of adjustments available :)

Should have left it, I raised the front to fully up and there it has stayed

All other electric functions back up, forward, backwards, lumber etc still fine.

It's dark out now so will have a look tomorrow, NOT what I need at all really climbing and bending around on the floor, it will probably finish my back off all together :(

So to go out armed is there an orderly check list to help me along please?

i.e. each motor fused separately or grouped?
Motors fail (No noise when switch activated)
Connectors etc

Thanks in advance

My car suffers this.. Its an identical one, V reg Exclusive etc.. I have my seat on a front up tilt and rear down setting, however, some days it wont adjust back, then others it works fine...

Im only the one that drives mine really, so rarely need to adjust the seat, so it doesnt bother me really.

If when you move the switch the motor doesn't run then I'd look towards the switch as they are relatively fragile, reach under/behind the switch and push it out, you may find that one of the rollers has popped out of place, if however the motor is running but nothing is happening to the seat height then the culprit is more than likely the splined rod which runs across the seat has either popped out of the motor or stripped its splines, the bad news is that the splined rod isn't available separately, the good news is that I've got a brand new whole seat base including motors and rods,,,

I would concur, used to be quite a common occurance on XMs, try squirting some WD40 into it and giving it a good workout.

I would not worry overly if my back was not moaning.

However the wife drives this more than me.

Cheers, the motor is not running so will go with the first part of your advice first 8-)

Try gently wiggling the control lever near the end of its travel. Oftentimes you'll find that holding it a poofteenth away from it's inbuilt stop, will result in good contact and resultant motor action.
