Ah this explains why transmission swaps were popular but I could not remember which way around. I've always found the 1.9 very much like an off / on switch though whereas the 1.6 is lively but drivable at sensible revs too.

You have to bear in mind, they were getting on when I was last there and would of been extensively tinkered (bodged in some cases*) with given their relative age. I did not see many I would say probably one every two maybe three months.
* The best one was the 1.9 oil cooler piping being held on with a selection of cable ties. It still moved around a bit though. Could not persuade the owner to have it rectified.
