I take it you have a K and N element in the standard airbox Jaine? If so then good. So many people throw away the standard intake system and put on a cone filter in the mistaken belief it'll make more power. In fact the opposite happens as it's hard to give a cone a good cold feed and the standard system is excellent anyway...

Lovely clean engine bay :-D

Andy, the 1.6 is a real screamer and very low-geared everywhere. The engine (and car generally) is as lively as a Springer Spaniel pup on E and loves to rev and rev. The 1.9 is an altogether tamer and less thrilling beast in my humble although it's a bit more laid-back on long, fast journeys where the 1.6 can get a bit trying if there's a general absence of bends to enjoy...

Ah this explains why transmission swaps were popular but I could not remember which way around. I've always found the 1.9 very much like an off / on switch though whereas the 1.6 is lively but drivable at sensible revs too.

You have to bear in mind, they were getting on when I was last there and would of been extensively tinkered (bodged in some cases*) with given their relative age. I did not see many I would say probably one every two maybe three months.

* The best one was the 1.9 oil cooler piping being held on with a selection of cable ties. It still moved around a bit though. Could not persuade the owner to have it rectified.

Ahh well, at least you've done it properly :-D

I've seen many where the old airbox tin is simply removed and the cone paced at the back of the engine so that it draws hot air directly off the exhaust manifold :twisted: It really upsets them...

It gives you so much more room, a lovely noise & a quicker pick up.

Why did it have to be modified?
A car is original only once.

Because the modifications are reverseable, same as the rear box when I put it on. All my Williams have been modified but all original parts kept & sold with vehicle. I prefer an induction kit over a standard airbox, thats all. I like a noisier exhaust, I like an upgraded stereo.

You are welcome to check my pulse any time. Still, I despise any form of modification of cars, that survived 20+ years in remarkably unmolested form.
There are enough 205s out there that are already boom boom boxes. Why do it to one of the last total minters?

Nowt wrong with a bit of tasteful modification... If we all liked the same thing the world would be a very boring place...

Induction roar is a fantastic sound IMO... =P~ :-D

If I had stuck a fibreglass bonnet on, tinted the windows, rolled the arches & stuck 17" alloys on then yes, I would have molested it but I have merely added subtle modifications that hardly turn it into a "boom boom box". I find that quite offensive in fact as I am a true classic/retro car fanatic that does not ruin cars or de-value them in anyway. Replacing a cassette deck with a cd head unit is also not modifying but enhancing my love of music whilst driving.
