They are quite easy, later ones are a bit easier as I seem to think they don't have the three bolts in the cam pulley, so a bit less messing around. Its more a question of getting all the stuff out of the way and the crank pulley can be a pain sometimes with it being rubberised, well sort of.
The only dis-advantage compared to the XUD is the tensioner is manual rather than the neat spring / plunger affair, shame they did not keep that really was very handy.

Like with all cam belt jobs, give the crank pully bolt a good soak with gt85 or similar the day before, use a good fitting socket on the bolt (most important). You'll need a set of locking pins for the crank and cam/flywheel, if I remember the injection pump is timed by the ecu on these. If it's the first time you have done a belt then I would put tipex marks on the belt and sprockets and transfer them to the new belt so you don't get a tooth out!
Watch out for the aux electrical heater if one is fitted!
The change Spider is referring to was about 2001 / 2 - it shouldn't affect any Xantias. The vernier cam pulley was deleted in favour of a floating crank pulley - for one of these you MUST use a crank locking device on the starter ring to undo the crank pulley, as you need to time the engine and lock the crank before you undo the crank bolt. Windy gun will fetch out the crank pulley bolt no bother if you can get access to one....
Thanks guys. Better get it done. I've only done one cambelt and that was on the kitcar. Most cars I've had seem to have had timing chains.

Engine pumps on Hdi or not that.. they are not a pump hence an electric lift pump in the fuel tank. they are actually a fuel rail pressurizer ... and no they are not timed..
No hdi cam locking needed any more then one bolt to lock them... remove the starter to reveal the flywheel timing hole. A 6mm Allen key fits in perfectly..
the cam lock does Not screw in like the xud did it just pushs in. and its at 7 o clock not 5 o clock like the xud..
the belt tensioner is the eccentric sort and is a little more tricky to tension. tighten it too much the engine WILL whine badly.. too little the belt will flap. Get a belt kit these have stupid plastic tensioner and idler pullys.. And do the water pump because guaranteed after you tension the belt the pump will leak.. so do it while its stripped out.. 30 roughly for a pump...
