Haywire lights is often a sign that the COMS2000 is on its way out - this is the unit that the stalks are on behind the steering wheel. There are myriad different ones depending on the spec of the car, but as long as you get one that has at least the fitments you have it should be OK. If you have got ESP it needs to go on a Lexia after change to calibrate the steering angle sensor. Cruise (and radio control) unit just plugs into the side, so don't worry about getting that, just swap from yours to the 'new' one. AFAIK air bag, wheel and shrouds off then the unit can be removed.

Ok coms2000 is the stalks so the whole lot needs removed and replaced when you say the same fitment as mine I'm a little confused I don't want to pull my car apart just yet to check anything until I have something to swap it to. No esp so that's a positive. I. An see roughly how the lower shroud comes off 2 torx screws but air bag and steering wheel are a mystery will have a look in the Haynes manual when I get home. I have done stuff like thus to my old merc but this car just confuses me
