Annabelle will be moving in tomorrow :D During my usual chats to neighbours I've mentioned that I've got a new car being delivered Friday and that it was built in 1981 but haven't told them what it is, a couple are looking forward to seeing what I've bought and said they'll be popping down to have a look around Saturday!

Today I've been taking advantage of the dry weather and looking into the first sunroof problem, the leak. The other problem is electrical and involves the slide button intermittently not working meaning that if I tilt, I can't close it again afterwards without using an allen key.

I've poured an excessive amount of water over the roof and can see water coming out of all of the drain holes so I know they aren't fully blocked. What I did notice after dropping the roof lining is that the long strips of metal on the sides and front that the blind runs along have water seeping out, more so in the corners. With a bit of help (its a heavy and awkward sized object!) I removed the sunroof from the car, removed all the T10 torx screws from the strips and took them off. There was rather a lot of surface corrosion building up in the screw holes which was spreading along the strips. After cleaning them up I ran a bead of clear sealant all the way along where the strips lie and screwed them back on.

I'm still going to investigate the drain pipes as for the water to get that high in the gutter in the first place they must be fairly overwhelmed. Still, today's job fixed something that wasn't right and gave me an excuse to check the condition of the cables which appear to be nicely greased up.

I wonder if your neighbours are expecting something a bit sporty and exotic to show up today? They will be pleasantly surprised I bet! 8-)

good work on the sunroof. Mine has not leaked since the week after I got back from Wales. I think yours and mine XM must have spent a bit too much time parked together! Self fixing cars, they are what I like

until I got it, the green XM spent all its time in a nice garage - it leaked a few times with me over the winter but not all the time. I reckoned it was more likely the aerial mount.

I had issues with the motor and it was microswitch 5 iirc. This would mean it would tilt but not slide, but if I pressed the switch in manually with a tiny screwdriver it would slide too - it always had a great motion going back and forward. I superglue-ed the microswitch so it would tilt and slide, although my bodge meant that you had to catch the sunroof as it went between tilt and slide operation and stop it before it went too far one way or the other. Otherwise, it was a case of removing the light to get to the panel to be able to wind the sunroof manually.

Did you ever manage to fix the electronic climate control and make the blower fans work? I tried a spare bitron unit but never got any joy.

It will be interesting to see their reaction!

Good to hear that though that Welsh rain certainly meant business, remember that quick walk we did on the way back from Pauls... I'll remember that for a while!

I'm almost certain that it's the sunroof, when I poured water over the it and the aerial with the roof lining down the water was coming from the sunroof. Thats not to say there isn't another leak in the aerial too though, wouldn't surprise me

I replaced the microswitch on the old sunroof motor and it wouldn't slide but it would tilt and park perfectly. I picked up another sunroof motor, fitted it and it worked fine. I've kept the old one to have a look at on a rainy day when I've learnt a bit more about electronics. I've a funny feeling the reason this replacement motor is kicking up is because of the leak, maybe corrosion or something somewhere as I have noticed a few drips from the motor itself.. I've tried a replacement switch (not confirmed working though so a bit invalid!) and there is no change.

The blower...this is frankly unbelieveable on Citroen's part. The 30 amp fuse in the engine bay fuse box should be a 40 amp one as it melts. Originally I removed the fuse and cleaned up the slightly melted area around it and replaced it with another 30 amp thinking it was a dodgy fuse. When I picked up the XM dealer manuals I noticed an info rapid relating to this. They recommend replacing the fusebox and sticking a 40 amp fuse in!

are you going to either Stratford or MK? I can let you try a fully functioning switch there and that can confirm if it is working or not. I've had one fail on me so far.

Annabelle arrived this afternoon via a very helpful local Citroen nut with a car transporter trailer :D

This photo was taken a good 20 minutes later, neither of them have moved so I assume they're getting on well :)
