The original Cit clips aren't actually used to hold the pressure off the belt whilst being worn
but to hold the buckle up against the pillar for easy reach when getting in and finding the belt
as without this neat little clip the buckle drops down the side of the seat and out of reach for
some people - simple neat idea and certainly probably not as expensive as the little button that
most new cars belts use to hold the buckle up!

I'll post a pic when I've done whatever I need to do. Right now it's not urgent as not need until next weekend.
(I'll have to make other arrangements for the MIL.

Re: Xantia VSX Estate middle rear sealt belt nightmare
My short term fix has been to borrow two or three of SWMBO’s clothes pegs and use them to hold a length of belt out before the seat is folded down. It seems that once the seat is folded beyond a right angle the return mechanism jams preventing the belt from extending as if the car is in a collision.
My theory is that the mechanism inside the belt retractor that stops the belt extending when snatched (as in an accident) has probably got fluff in it and needs cleaning and lubricating with something like (dry) Teflon Lube.
This component is situated in the retractor on the opposite side to the retractor coil spring.
Although I have removed and replaced the seat back I was not brave enough to remove the material to dismantle it to find where the retractor is located. I was not sure if the seat material could be removed without permanently damaging it.
Tim’s pictures are evidence that he is braver than me – any advice on how to remove and replace the seat material would be appreciated.
Andy.

I'm pretty sure I've made a hash of it, Andy, but then again the rear seats were in a poor (torn) condition anyway. It looks ok, just untidy where the fabric goes around the holes for the headrests.

Headrest guides may be readily removed by rotating 90° then withdrawing from the steel receiving tube. This takes some finger strength, and wusses may need to use thin multigrips just below the plastic's collar, after depressing the foam.
When refitting there is no need to push and twist - just align locking nibs with the tube's slots and ram that baby in.
