Killed my new 1.9TD Xantia!!!!

Gutted!!! Clipped my sump on a rock in a car park on Dartmoor, holed the sump and seconds after the oil light came on the camshaft had seized/snapped. The bottom end turns, the top end doesn't!

Getting the car taken home to Nottingham (it's still near Plymouth at the mo) and will be deciding what to do with it.

It's a really smart car but I guess it's dead now?

Has anyone got a cheap diesel Xantia for sale near to Nottingham?

Need to drive back to work on Monday morning. I'm in the Navy so HAVE to get back.

Thats really bad luck

I cracked the sump one my 1.9td but it took ages for the bottom end to start rattling and the engine still ran half decently even then...

Have you thought about getting a 2nd hand head shipped to you and just getting it popped in quickly with some new belts and fluids?

would be easier and quiker to drop another complete lump in if you can find a known good one localish,

Wouldn't the bottom end be damaged now?

Not sure the cost of a head, belt and fluids would be worth it.

Need to get it all sorted over the weekend.

If the bottom end isn't knocking the bearing shells could still be damaged. You might be lucky and get away with it but to be certain it isn't going to let you down they need checking. To do that and replace the head is going to take quite some hours though, and it isn't guaranteed all will be ok straight away.

I have a Xantia estate, but in its current estate, I want £800 for it, not really what you would call cheap, it will be more when I have finished fettling it. Its a Mk11 1.9td with a genuine 98K , new mot and taxed till Nov.

Thought I was the king of rotten luck. A full motor swap would the quickest solution in this case.

For the cost of buying a another car you could get a secondhand engine and have it fitted.

Cheers guys. Decided to just get another motor and have a look at the bottom end if this one when I have some time.

Found a tidy black 2.0HDI that just needs a starter motor. £300 quid sound ok? It's done 140k miles.

Anything to look for on the HDI?

That's a bargain for an HDi..

Look for all the usual Xantia foibles really. The engine is generally pretty bombproof but do check all the normal dieselly things...

Is it a 90 or a 110?

On a 110 do check cooling, condition of the turbo hoses and engine mounts as a first thing... The lift pump in the tank can fail but apart from that if it runs then it'll be a good buy...

Seriously though, are you looking to strip the Xant S1 or are you going to repair it in the long term at some point?
